1. “OTHER và ANOTHER”
* “OTHER”
– Other Đề cập tới một cái gì đó khác biệt, phân biệt giữa cái này và cái kia:
E.g.: They have 2 sons. You’ve just met Jack. The other boy, Nick, is even more intelligent.
=>Họ có 2 cậu con trai. Anh vừa gặp Jack đấy. Thằng bé còn lại, Nick, thậm chí còn thông minh hơn.

– Other cũng có thể sử dụng như một danh từ, others là danh từ số nhiều, trong những trường hợp không cần thiết phải có danh từ ở sau.
E.g.: Only 2 out of 10 balls are red. The others are all green.

=>Chỉ có 2 trong số 10 quả bóng là màu đỏ. Các quả còn lại đều màu xanh

* “ANOTHER”
– Được ghép từ An Other, another đề cập tới một cái gì đó mang tính chất thêm vào:
E.g.: Do you want another drink?
=>Ông có muốn một cốc nữa không? (Ông đã uống 1 hoặc nhiều cốc rồi, ông có muốn thêm 1 cốc khác nữa không?)

* Để rõ hơn về sự khác biệt, ta hãy xét các ví dụ:
– OTHER
E.g.: There are different kinds of fruit in the basket. One is apple, one is pineapple and the other is banana.
=> Chỉ có 3 loại quả trong giỏ mà thôi. 1 loại là táo, 1 loại là dứa và loại kia là chuối.

E.g.: You take this and I will take the other.
=>Anh lấy cái này đi và tôi sẽ lấy cái kia.

– ANOTHER
E.g.: There are different kinds of fruit in the basket. One is apple, one is pineapple and another is banana.
=> Có nhiều hơn 3 loại quả trong giỏ. 1 loại là táo, 1 loại là dứa, 1 loại nữa là chuối, còn 1 hoặc nhiều loại khác nữa chưa đề cập tới.

E.g.: You take this and I will take another one.
=>Anh lấy cái này đi và tôi sẽ đi lấy thêm 1 cái nữa

=> Tóm lại: Other được sử dụng để nói đến những cá thể trong một tập thể xác định còn Another nói đến một sự bổ sung trong một tập thể mà chưa xác định.

2. “ONE ANOTHER” và ” EACH OTHER”
Hai từ này đều dùng để nói về một người khác trong một nhóm, nhưng “one another” dành cho nhóm 3 người trở lên, còn “each another” dành cho nhóm chỉ có 2 người.
E.g:
– People are jealous watching the couple taking care of each another.
=> Người ta ghen tị khi nhìn đôi vợ chồng quan tâm tới nhau.
– The group members always help one another in every activities.
=> Các thành viên của nhóm luôn giúp đỡ nhau trong mọi hoạt động.
