We went to Doi Tam, a village famous for its drum making techniques, in Ha Nam Province last month. The craft was first introduced to the village sometime in the 8th or 9th century. Today there are more than six hundred drum makers living in Doi Tam village.

I was amazed to see big drums in front of every house in the village. People say that it takes four workers three days to make a drum with a diameter of 1.5 metres. To make a drum, the craftsmen have to follow an eight-stage process. Stretching the drumhead is the most challenging stage since they have to carefully assess the sound it makes. The other steps do not require such high skills.

Nowadays, Doi Tam drums are not only famous in Viet Nam but are also sold to other countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Japan, and the USA.

Today, I will introduce about Doi Tam Village, a village lying on the foot of Doi Mountain. This village has a traditional drum-making craft for over 1000 years, which has been recognized as “representative craft village”. Doi Tam Village helps maintain historical values, which have been in Vietnamese’s mind for a long time. The village is located at Tien Son Commune, Duy Tan Town, Ha Nam Province. Doi Tam village is famous for its traditional drum making techniques. Doi Tam’s drums has such great reputation that they are used in many important festival of the country. Additionally, the landscapes in the village are beautiful and the air is fresh. The villagers are kind and helpful too. I hope one day you can get the chance to visit this amazing village.

       Some people say they like living in the countryside, others like living in the city. In my opinion, I prefer to live in the countryside for the following reasons. First of all, it's a quiet and peaceful place. There are many different species of plants, so the air and food are always fresh and clean. Finally, most of the villagers are friendly and hospitable. They are always willing to help each other. Moreover, city dwellers are easily stressed by pollution, work and competition pressures. In summary, Living in the countryside has many advantages because of the fresh air, clean food, especially the friendliness and hospitality of the people.

The craft village may get lost because of the modern things create by machine. We can solve this problem by advertising the value of craft villages and make foreiners know more about them.

JK, how are you now? I'm very happy because of the letter you sent me last week. Do you have any plan for this summer? If you are free, let's visit my hometown. Da Nang is very beautiful and interesting. It is famous for many delicious food and many entertainment centres. I think you will like this. In the morning, I will take you to some attractive places in Da Nang such as Ngu Hanh Son, Son Tra Peninsula, Ba Na Mountain,... because your hobby is taking pictures about scenery. Do you know? The scenery in Da Nang city is really wonderful. After that, I will take you to some well-known restaurants to eat. You should try the food here because it is so tasty. You can choose the restaurant you like. In the afternoon, we will go to the cinema to see your favourite film. We can also go to the entertainment centre to go shopping, playing games, etc,... Especially, in the evening, we will see firework at Han River Bridge and eat something. Beside that, if you want, I will take you to the park to play. When you come to my hometown, you can stay at my home. We will have more time to talk together about our studying and working. My parents will be very happy if you come.

Yes, I do. Pesticides are harmful to not only the insects they're meant to kill but also to other animals, plants, and humans who consume them. They also have long-term effects on the environment, which is why I think a ban on pesticides is necessary.

I would love to be an ecologist because I'm passionate about protecting the environment and all the living organisms on this planet. If I were an ecologist, I would focus on finding ways to reduce pollution and combat climate change. I would also study the effects of human activities on different ecosystems, such as deforestation and habitat destruction, and finding ways to mitigate these impacts.
