Part I. Complete each of the sentences in such a way that it means exactly the same as the one printed before it. Use the word given in CAPITALS (if provided).(10 points)

1.   The company presents a gold watch to each of its retiring employees.

2.   The Pacific Ocean is on average deeper than The Atlantic.

 3.  The result of the match was never in doubt.

4.   Were Jack not so affluent a man, she would not be dating him. (BUT)

Part 2:

                            GOOD AT LANGUAGES

At school, Sarah Biggs says she was very bad (0)           at         languages. Now she speaks English, Spanish  and  Italian  and works (1)             as         _ a bilingual secretary in a travel company in

England. (2)          Speaking               several foreign languages at work is not easy, but for Sarah, and other multi-lingual secretaries like her, it is all standard practice.

Sarah comes from Spain, (3)         where                 she attended school and college. But it was time spent abroad after college that encouraged her interest in languages.

In her job, Sarah has a great deal more responsibility than the title of secretary would suggest.
