Environmental pollution has become a controversial issue that puts severe pressure on our rhythm of life. The pollution on Earth has reached such an alarming level that immediate involvement from governments and individuals collaboration now are of great importance. First and foremost, industrial activities are considered to be the main cause for air pollution. Along with the global industrialization, the burning of fossil fuels, motor vehicles and factories are contaminating the air by their emission of harmful fumes. In the second place, pervasive deforestation for land use, overuse of fertilizers and the dumping pollutants such as plastic or non- biodegradable packing in the ground has affected the ecosystem and led to soil pollution. However, there is a high price to pay since pollution has become one of the most serious problems we have to confront. The first factor that is under great strain is the source of water. In the modern times, a number of factories have been built, leading to a huge amount of waste that needs to be dealt with. But with a lack of sewage treatment systems, most of this is dumped directly into rivers or lakes, destroying marine life. In addition, oil spills from tanker ship accidents also contribute to water population, which killed thousands of seabirds and aquatic animals. Not only water, the air is also contaminated seriously. It is shown that most of the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere comes from coal burning power plants and motor vehicles, causing global warming and greenhouse effect. The situation became worse since our green lungs have been damaged seriously due to the alarming rate of deforestation. As a result of air pollution, human health can be threatened and put at risk of respiratory problems and hives.Last but not least, soil pollution is another example of our negative impacts on the environment. Môi trường bao gồm những yếu tố tự nhiên như đất, nước, không khí, sinh vật,….mang lại nhiều lợi ích to lớn, đóng vai trò quan trọng trong sự sống của loài người. Tuy nhiên hiện nay, môi trường đang bị ô nhiễm một cách trầm trọng, nhận được sự quan tâm và lo lắng của nhiều quốc gia trên thế giới.

Vậy ô nhiễm môi trường là gì? Ô nhiễm môi trường là một tình trạng mà tất cả những yếu tố tự nhiên đã và đang bị nhiễm các chất cặn bẩn, chất độc hại, có hại với sức khỏe con người. Với môi trường đất đai, con người sử dụng những chất thuốc hóa học như thuốc trừ sâu, bảo vệ thực vật,….

Tuy diệt được các loài có hại nhưng những sinh vật có ích cũng bị nhiễm độc thuốc ảnh hưởng theo, làm đất bị thoái hóa trầm trọng, đặc biệt là Việt Nam tình trạng này còn trầm trọng hơn khi ngoài việc phun thuốc hóa học để chống sâu bệnh hại quá liều mà do tỉ lệ dân số nước ta khá cao so với diện tích đất khiến cho diện tích đất trồng đang bị thu hẹp lại.

Với môi trường nước, các nhà máy hoạt động thải chất bẩn ra các con sông mà không xử lý, gây nhiễm độc nước làm nhiều loài sinh vật biển chết hàng loạt. Trong đó phải kể đến sự việc cá chết hàng loạt vào năm 2016 nhà máy Formosa thải chất thải trực tiếp xuống sông khiến các vùng biển Vũng Áng, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên – Huế bị nhiễm độc nặng, ảnh hưởng đến công việc ngư dân và đời sống sinh hoạt cũng như sức khỏe của người dân.

Ngoài ra, việc phun thuốc hóa học không chỉ làm đất bị suy thoái, mà còn gây ô nhiễm nguồn nước khi phun thuốc trước hoặc sau các ngày mưa làm thuốc hóa học theo đất đổ ra các con sông, đồng thời khí độc trong thuốc bay hơi sẽ ảnh hưởng đến môi trường không khí. Môi trường không khí hiện nay cũng đang bị ô nhiễm rất lớn bởi khí thải của các phương tiện giao thông, các nhà máy chưa qua xử lý.

Đặc biệt tình trạng ô nhiễm không khí nặng nề phải kể đến thủ đô Bắc Kinh Trung Quốc khi người dân Trung Quốc gần như không thấy mặt trời, ra đường luôn phải đội mũ bảo hộ. Đây quả thực là một tình trạng hết sức nguy cấp và có dấu hiệu gia tăng khi khí hậu đang dần biến đổi, vùng Bắc cực có dấu hiệu băng tan.

Tình trạng ô nhiễm gây ra rất nhiều tác hại mà không chỉ sinh vật, con người sẽ là nạn nhân chịu ảnh hưởng trực tiếp. Với sức khỏe con người, ô nhiễm môi trường gián tiếp gây ra những căn bệnh nguy hiểm khi họ ăn phải hoặc uống, sử dụng phải nguồn nước nhiễm độc, sinh vật chết do nhiễm chì nặng gây ngộ độc thực phẩm, đặc biệt Việt Nam ta hiện nay đang là nước đứng thứ hai thế giới vì tỉ lệ người bị mắc bệnh ung thư.
