Viet (Kinh) ethnic group

Name of ethnic group: Kinh (Viet). Population: About 65.8 million people (Year 1999). Locality: These people live in all provinces but are densely clustered in the delta areas and urban centres.

Customs and habits
The Kinh ancient villages are usually surrounded by bamboo groves. The communal house is a place for meeting and conducting common ritual ceremonies. The Kinh also live in mud houses. They enjoy the habits of chewing betel, smoking water pipes and cigarettes, drinking tea, and eating ordinary rice.

The husband is considered the head of the family. Children take the family name of their father. The eldest son is responsible for the worship of dead parents and grandparents. Each family lineage has a temple for their forefathers and the head of the family lineage handles all common affairs.

Monogamy is observed during marriage. The family of the man approves the marriage and organizes the wedding for him. After the wedding party, the bride goes to live with her husband's family. The Kinh attach much importance to fidelity and the virtues of the bride.

They worship their ancestors and also practice Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism or Christianity to various extents.

Culture
The Kinh have a rich collection of literature which includes old tales, folk ballads, and proverbs. The written literature takes many forms such as poems, writings, books, and edicts. Song, music, sculpture, painting, dance and performance are also well developed and popular.

Costumes
The traditional attire of the Kinh in the north is a brown pajama set for men. A four paneled robe, bra, and trousers for women, also in brown, are usually worn. In the southern delta plains, both men and women wear black pajamas. At present, the Kinh's costumes resemble western clothing.

Economy
Rice cultivation in submerged fields is the main economic activity of the Kinh. They also erect dykes and dig canals which help in the growing of wet rice, gardening, and sericulture. They also raise cattle and poultry. Pottery production has been very developed for a long time.

The Kinh, also called the Viet people, is the majority ethnic group of Vietnam, comprising about 86% of the population. The Kinh people settle along the whole Vietnam. Vietnamese is the native language of the Vietnamese (Kinh) people, as well as a first or second language for the many ethnic minorities of Vietnam. Like many of the other ethnic groups of Vietnam's Central Highlands, the Bahnar plays a great number of traditional musical instruments, including gongs and string instruments made from bamboo. These instruments are sometimes plaved in concert on special occasions

The Viet live everywhere in the country. They have the largest population. They have many kinds od food from North to South. They often celebrate many festivals during the year. They have the traditional costume such as : Ao Dai , Ao Ba Ba.....

Like other traditions, patriotism is a special feature of our country's longstanding culture and it is reflected in the past and into every action and thought of every human being. Since ancient times, patriotic spirits have been most prominent in heroic heroes such as Trung, Trieu, Tran Hung Dao, etc. But it was in the war. Now - peacetime - the modernization period with the machines, tools are increasingly useful, practical. Society is moving forward, things have changed a lot, only the patriotic love of each individual is not faded. In the life of ideas, employment helps to develop the economy of the country in part is the patriotic spirit. From farmer feet muddy hands are still as skilful as the day of making rice seeds, rice seeds for agriculture, personal life. Or physicians who are dedicated to helping patients, it is also a gesture of kindness, love of one kind, more broadly that is the patriotism. Politicians, scholars, their achievements are also out of patriotism. Even small acts are part of the contribution to that noble thought. The consciousness of every human being is most clearly revealed. Do not throw litter indiscriminately, keep the environment clean and beautiful green, take care of fresh plants to fresh air atmosphere. It is a beautiful gesture by the patriotism from patriotism. From old people to young children are taught each other to understand and follow that virtue. The passion of patriotism is expressed not by words but by actions that have benefited the country. Responding to movements such as anti-narcotics, propaganda to preserve the environment, avoid social evils, learn and follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example. Is not that patriotic spirit? Newspapers and television also raise the issue of contributing, devoting strength, wisdom to the society, supporting the poor. Programs to understand the country, history to understand, protect and promote the multi-dimensional cultural heritage of the country. All, all because of that beautiful ideal. Specifically, the soldiers outside the border, the island must sacrifice happiness, away from relatives to protect the country, to keep the air in peace. It was patriotism that urged them. That motivation is also the goal, the inspiration, the happiness for them when protected beloved river, preserve the patriotic spirit. Patriotism is to love all that is good, to love nature, to love the sky, to love the sky, to fly birds, to love the rivers of love or to love the fragile leaves .
After all, the patriotism comes from the will, the determination to strive to build the motherland, love and hope. The patriotic spirit includes many other loves: family love, homeland, human love. My favorite movie is "A Walk To Remember". This is my favorite movie because it deals with real life issues, like some of the most important things in life such as: love, relationships, and most important, who your real friends are. "A Walk To Remember is about a girl named Jamie (Mandy Moore) who is the daughter of a minister who becomes ill. During high school Jamie doesn't have very many friends but is in alot of activities and through that she meets a reckless boy named Landon. Landon got into some trouble which made the principal force him into being in a play for the drama club. Landon Played a lead role as did Jamie, even though they didn't hang out in the same crowd of friends when Landon needed Giúp with his lines in the play he turned to Jamie to Giúp him out. One of the first things she told Landon was for him to promise that he wouldn't fall in love with her. But that is a promise that he did not keep. Jamie finally told Landon that she had cancer and the treatment stoped working so she didn't have very much time to live. Jamie had this list of accomplisments that she wanted to make before she passed. The number one thing was to get married at the same church that her mother and father was married in. Landon made ALL of her dreams come true. But unfortunitally her cancer became worse and she died. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes heart touching stories, I liked it and would watch it a million times a day if I could.

In my free time , i often watch tv . On TV ,there are many exciting programmes but my favorite programme is ''TOM & JERRY'' .It's entertaining and exciting. It's on Cartoon Network , i often watch it at 8 o'clock . During the cartoon , it talk about the competition between Tom and Jerry.In the finally, Tom always hurts . In the cartoon , i like Jerry the most , because it's clever and so cool .

Topic 4 :

Everybody has his or her own hobby. My favourite hobby is reading. I enjoy reading a book when I am free. I started to get the hobby from my father when I was four years old. My father is a researcher so he has a great collection of books on many fields: literature, science, art,…
I enjoy reading because it allows me to explore my own imaginative world. I keep the hobby of reading at least one hour every day. I usually read books at home, in my own room, at my office or at the local library. On my freetime, I can spend hours reading and thinking about facts described in each kind of books.
My favourite author is J.K.Rowling who wrote world-famous books “ Harry Potter”.
For me a good book is not only a true companion but also a well-experienced teacher guiding me through my life. There are a lot of advantages of reading. Reading makes me feel relaxed and calm. It has the miracle to relieve my suffering and my hardship and reveal to me strange and new horizons. I can also learn new vocabularies and grammars. So I can further improve my English. Moreover, it gives me unlimited imaginations. I can learn about different cultures of other countries in the world, too.
Instead of indulging myself in futile entertainments, I am often keen on reading books, which broadens my mind and improves my knowledge.
In a few words, the reading of books contributes to the moral and intellectual formation of a man. I love reading and I love books. I will collect more and more books and I wish I can write my own books in the future.

Topic 3 :

I would like to talk about the Lunar New Year festival, also known as the Tet holiday, which is the occasion expected the most by Vietnamese people every year. The festival usually lasts for around 3-4 days, and it takes place when a new year comes according to the lunar calendar.

The Lunar New Year festival takes place because it is one of the most well-known traditions of Vietnam. Our people have been celebrating this occasion for thousands of years, and although there has been some recent argument about whether we should stop celebrating this festival, I do not think this activity will come to an end soon, at least not in the short term.

There are some common things that people do during this festival. Perhaps the most important thing is that people who work and study in big cities would go back to their hometown to celebrate the new year with their families and relatives. The new year festival is one of very few occasions that families can gather together, so it is easy to understand why everyone in Vietnam expects this festival so much. Another thing that we usually do is that we give children some “lucky money” with the hope that it will bring fortune to those kids. We also have some other activities such as making “chung” cake, visiting temples and pagodas… and so on.

The new year festival is so important to me and also to all Vietnamese citizens. The reason is because we get more days off from work and study, and therefore we have more time to spend with our families and our loved ones. It is also a great time to think about what we have done in the previous year, and to make plans for the upcoming year.

Though I have been born and raised in a metropolitan city, I visited my grandfather’s house many times and that’s a beautiful village that I have ever seen. This village is in the north part of the country and falls under the ......( tự điền tên ) . This village is situated beside Lam river and has more than 10 thousand inhabitants.

I went there in my childhood with my parents and the latest visit was in the last January with my mother. This village is almost 125 kilometres away from the place we currently live in. First, we took a train to reach the station of the district/state/ country where my grandfather’s village is and from the station we took a taxi to reach the river port of our village. There we took a boat and finally we walked 1-2 kilometres to reach the village.

My grandfather has passed away a few years back and my grandmother, 2 of my uncles 2 aunts and their children still live in this village. Apart from our family members, the farmers and workers who work for my uncles, live there.

This, in my opinion, is the most beautiful village I have ever been to. My forefather lived there and my father spent his childhood and teenage there. So in terms of bonding, this is a very important place for me. My grandmother and some of the cousins are very fond of me and I mostly meet them in whenever I go there. So in terms of my relation to my origin and relatives, this is the village I admire most.

Besides that, this is a very beautiful village that seems like a painting by a famous painter. The environment is calm and pollution free, the green fields, fresh air and hygienic foods offer a very attractive reason for being there. The flowing river, the forest, the simple lifestyle of residence and my of my relatives are the main things I love about this village.

There are very few things that I dislike about this village and the village itself has nothing to do about it. Like the education facility and treatment facility of this village is very poor and primitive. That’s something bothers me a lot.
