Workers in Canada made an exciting discovery when machine operator Shawn Funk unearthed something much harder than the surrounding rock. This turned out to be a remarkably well-preserved fossilized dinosaur, now displayed at a local museum. The dinosaur, which has turned to stone over 110 million years, is covered in armor and spikes, with fossilized skin and scales still intact. Researcher Caleb Brown noted that the fossil is so well-preserved, it resembles how the dinosaur originally looked, not just a skeleton. Paleontologists find such discoveries rare, as typically only bones and teeth are fossilized. Scientists theorize that the dinosaur’s carcass was carried to the ocean by a flood, where it was quickly covered in mud, preserving its body in remarkable detail. However, studying the fossil’s bones without damaging the outer layers presents a challenge, making this dinosaur almost too well-preserved.
