8. The wind turns turbines to.... energy
Our non-renewable energy sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas will (1) __________ out in the future. That's the (2) __________ why we are looking for alternative sources of (3) __________ which are cheap, clean and effective. These (4) __________ of energy will not cause (5) __________ or waste natural resources. (6) __________ power is one of them. It's currently the cheapest source of large-scale renewable energy.
Most wind energy is produced from turbines that have three 60-meter-long blades. The wind spins the blades, which turn a shaft connected to a generator that produces (7) __________. Now, mass production and technology advances are (8) __________ turbines cheaper. In 2000, cumulative wind capacity (9) __________the world was 17,000 megawatts. Fifteen years later, this number increased sharply to 430,000 megawatts. It is predicted that with this pace of growth, (10) in 2050 one third of the world's electricity needs will be fulfilled by wind power.

Almost all our energy comes from oil, coal, and natural gas. We call them fossil fuels. The earth’s fossil fuels are running out. What will happen when there is no coal, oil and gas on earth?
Scientists are trying to find and use other alternative sources of energy. We can use energy from the sun, the wind, and the water.
Solar energy is unlimited. The sun supplies all the energy used to grow plants, to evaporate water for rain, and to maintain the temperature of the planet. All are necessary for human life. If we are able to collect solar energy, we will be sure to have this abundant source of power.
1. From which do plants on the earth get energy?
A. Stars
B. The Mars
C. The moon
D, The sun
2. What are the other words or phrase for fossil fuels?
A. Natural
B. Oil
C. Coal
D. Oil, gas, natural gas
3. Natural sources of energy are energy from..............
A. Wind
B. The sun
C. Water
D. The sun, wind, water
4. The word "abundant" in the passage is closet in meaning with............
A. Plentiful
B. Limited
C. Natural
D. Necessary

I. Read the passage and choose the best answer A, B, C or D to complete the passage.
The natural environment includes all natural resources that are necessary for life: the air, the oceans, the sun, andthe land. Because they are vital for life, these resources must be protected from pollution and conserved. Ecologists study their importance and how to (1).......... them carefully.
According to ecologists, resources are divided into two groups: (2).......... and non-renewable. When a resource is used, it takes some time to replaceit. If the resource can be replaced (3)........., it is called renewable. If it cannot be replaced quickly and easily, it is non-renewable. For example, grass for animals is a renewable resource. When cows eat the grass, the resource is used. If the soil is fertilized and (4).........., more grass will grow. Coal, however, is non-renewable because it takes millions of years to make coal. All fossil fuels are non-renewable resources.
1. A. use B. be used C. used D. using
2. non-renewable B. renewable C. limited D. plentiful
3. A. easy B. difficultly C. quickly D. for a long time
4. A. protect B. protected C. protecting D. to protect

Read the text then answer the questions. (Đọc và trả lời câu hỏi)
Dear guests, I’d like to talk to you today about renewable and non-renewable energy. Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources. They include oil, coal, and natural gas. They can be used to create energy, generate electricity, or drive big machinery. Unfortunately, they are harmful to the environment. Viet Nam still relies mostly on non-renewable energy sources, however, hydro power is increasingly used here too.
Hydro and nuclear power can generate a great deal of energy. They are renewable and plentiful. However, hydro power is limited because dams cannot be built in certain areas. Nuclear power can provide enough electricity for the world’s needs, but it is dangerous. The sun and the wind are other alternative sources of energy. The wind turns turbines to
make electricity. Solar power can be converted into electricity. It can be used to heat or cool our houses. Although there are some disadvantages, these alternative energy sources can offer abundant amounts of clean, safe electricity. They will be valued more and more in the future in Viet Nam.
1.How many types of energy sources are mentioned in the text? What are they?
2.What are the disadvantages of hydro and nuclear power?
3.Why do you think the wind and the sun are called alternative sources of energy?
4.What types of energy does Viet Nam use most?
5.What does the professor think Viet Nam will use more in the future?
