Hate/Love/Like (ghét/yêu/thích) + V-ing nhấn mạnh trải nghiệm chung. Ta thường dùng cấu trúc này để diễn tả tình huống/hành động cụ thể hoặc để gợi ý sự tận hưởng (hoặc kém tận hưởng)

Ví dụ:

-I hate looking after elderly relatives!

-I love going to the cinema.

-I like stretching before I go jogging.

Hate/Love/Like (ghét/yêu/thích) + to-V nhấn mạnh nhiều hơn tới kết quả của hành động hoặc sự việc, thường liên quan tới sở thích, thói quen... 

Ví dụ:

-I love to dance at the jazz club.

-I hate to tell you, but Uncle Jim is coming this weekend.

-I like to go to the cinema tonight 

Lưu ý: Trong tiếng Anh - Mỹ, Hate/Love/Like + to-V phổ biến hơn nhiều so với V-ing. 

Cách dùng Love/Like/Hate + V-ing

Động từ hate, love, like thường được theo sau bởi V-ing hoặc to-V. Có sự khác biệt nhỏ giữa 2 cách kết hợp này và bài viết dưới đây sẽ giúp các bạn làm rõ sự khác biệt đó.

Cách dùng Love/Like/Hate + V-ing

 Would + hate, like, love luôn với to-V chứ không phải V-ing

Ví dụ:

We would love to hear you sing. Not: We would love hearing you sing.They’d hate to cause a problem. Not: They’d hate causing a problem.I’d like to eat something. Not: I’d like eating something.
