Nowadays, Vietnam has many of interesting holidays but I like Tet or the Lunar New Year best. It is a festival which occurs in late January or early February. It is the most important festival in Vietnam because it is the time for families to get together, decorate their house, make a lot of food, especially sticky rice cake. A few weeks before Tet, many families are very busy because they have to prepare a wonderful holiday for their home. They buy a lot of things and they don't forget to buy a peach tree to put in the corner of the living room. On New Year' Eve, people gather in the living room to have a special meal and after that they wait for the New Year. When New Year comes, people wish others a happy new year. The children are given lucky money from the older people,.... On the next day, the families visit their neighbors, relatives, and some temples, pagodas to wish a good year for their families. These activities are the reason why I like Tet holiday best.
Nowadays, there are many festivals in Viet Nam. Each festival has its owns characteristic. But I like Tet the most. Tet is one of the most important festival in Viet Nam. The word is shortened form of “Tet Nguyen Dan”. It is held annually, from the first day of the first lunar month until at least the third day. Tet is an occasion for every Vietnamese people to welcome a new year and let everyone in the family gather. A week before Tet, every house is usually decorated by apricot blossoms, peach blossoms or St.John wort. Vietnamese people also decorated their homes with some flowers such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, carnation, hydrangea flower… They also hang up Dong Ho paintings and calligraphy. Then they make “chung” cakes – a traditional cake at Tet in Viet Nam, “day” cakes and sticky rice to worship their ancesters. On New Year’s Eve, everyone goes to see the colorful fireworks. At 0 o'clock the first day of the New Year, everyone wishes each other the best wishes. And first-footing is made when the lucky visitor comes and children are given lucky money wrapped in a red tiny envelope. On the days after, people visit their friends and relatives, go to the temples or pagodas, give lucky money to elderly people and children. I love Tet very much because it’s a time for peace and love.
