Steve, 13: I love TV. The first thing I do when I wake up is to switch it on. My favourite channel is the Cartoon Network. I watch TV three or four hours a day. My parents think it is too much and they are always telling me to study, read a little or do a sport. But TV is my favourite hobby. I'm addicted to my favourite programmes.
Kate, 14: I know most teens don't like watching the news, but I do. I like to know what is happening around our world I also enjoy documentaries, espeoially about wildlife. I'm very curious about the way animals live and how to preserve their habitats. I also enjoy watching live shows and films, mostly comedies and thrillers. I watch TV two or three hours a day.
Rachel, 17: I like TV as everybody else, but now that I'm older I'm more selective about the programmes shows like''Who wants to watch cartoons all the time?'', so I don't really spend too much time in front of the box, an hours or two a day....Some programmes are educational and help us to use our imagination, but many are full of violence.

I live in a house near the sea. It’s an old house, about 100 years old, and it’s very small. There are two bedrooms upstairs but no bathroom. The bathroom is downstairs next to the kitchen and there’s a living room where there’s a lovely old fireplace. There’s a garden in front of the house. The garden goes down to the beach and in spring and summer there are flowers everywhere. I live with my parents, and we have a lot of visitors. My city friends often stay with me. I love my house for many reasons: the garden, the flowers in summer, the fire in winter, but the best thing is the view from my bedroom window.

The world-famous Inca site Machu Picchu in Peru is going to get an airport. Peru's government started preparing the ground for the airport earlier this week. Around one million tourists visit Machu Picchu every year. Government officials hope the new Chinchero International Airport will make it easier for tourists to reach the site. Getting to Machu Picchu currently takes time and requires a bus and train. The nearest airport is 120 kilometers away in the city of Cuzco. The new airport will allow direct international flights into the heart of the Machu Picchu area. The government says this will be a boost for the country's tourism industry. More than 7 million passengers a year may use the airport.
Machu Picchu was built in the 15th century by the Inca people. They built it 2,430 meters up on a misty peak in the Andes Mountains. It became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983. Many people are unhappy about the building of the new airport. Conservationists say it will cause a lot of damage to Machu Picchu and its surrounding rural communities. Peruvian archaeologist Abel Traslaviña said: "The airport...endangers the conservation of one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in the world. An airport in the surroundings of the Sacred Valley will affect the integrity of a complex Inca landscape and will cause irreparable damage due to noise, traffic and uncontrolled urbanization."

Dear Stella,
Thanks for letting me know about your hometown.
Let me tell you about my hometown, Burano. Burano is an island in the north of Italy, about 7 km from Venice. You can take a 40-minute waterbus ride from Venice. It is famous for its colorful houses. You can take great photos wherever you are on the island. Burano is also famous for its seafood. A lot of restaurants serve great, fresh seafood at cheap prices. Burano is very quiet and peaceful. About three thousand people live here.
It is better to visit Burano in summer because it is very cold in winter.
Please write back soon. I want to know about your family.
Your friend,
Ricardo
