In Viet Nam, a market is a trading place, but many markets are not only about buying and selling things. They reflect the life of the community. A traditional market is a social gathering point for people of all ages and it is a new and exciting experience for children, a trading place for local craftsmen, and a chance for young people to meet. People go to the traditional market not only to buy and sell things but also to eat, drink, play games and socialize. For example, if you go to Sa Pa Market, it is the highlands in the north of Viet Nam, you can see people wear their nicest clothes and spend all day long at the market. They buy things, play the flute, dance and sing. This is also a time to meet, make friends or look for lovers. That is why this kind of gathering is also called “love market”. Some other countryside markets in the Mekong Delta are held on boats. Most of the goods are sold at a floating market. The most exciting time is in the early morning, when boats arrive loaded up with agricultural products.

Making a film takes a long time and is very hard work. Writing the story for the film may take many weeks. Filming the story, or shooting the film, often takes at least six months. Actors and cameramen work from very early in the morning until late at night. Each scene had to be acted and reacted, filmed and refilmed, until it is just right. Sometimes the same scene has to be acted twenty or thirty times. The film studio is like a large factory and the indoor stages are very big indeed. Scenery of all kinds is made in the studio; churches, castles and forests are all built of wood and cupboard. Several hundred people work together to make one film. Some of these people are actors and actresses. The director of the film, however, is the most important person in a studio. He decides how the scene should be filmed and how the actors should act. Most people go to see a film because they know the film stars in it. Sometimes the film may be very poor. It is best to choose a film made by a good director. Some famous directors make their film very real. People feel that they themselves are among the people in the film.

Sloth was famous for being the laziest animal in the forest. He would eat and sleep all day comfortably on the tree branches. One day, a bird built her nest near Sloth’ branch. She laid her egss and watched them until they hatched. Then, she had to fly off and look for food. She asked Sloth to keep an eye on her babies. Sloth was too lazy to answer. “ You are good for nothing” said the bird angrily and flew off.
Soon, a snake slithered up the tree looking for baby bird to eat. It did not notice Sloth on the branch. It was just about to strike the baby birds when it felt a sharp pain on its side. Sloth had clawed it. The snake fell to the ground and slithered away. The mother bird saw what Sloth did. She felt so ashamed of herself. “ Sorry”, she said to Sloth. Sloth simply went back to sleep.

Điền T or F
Read the passage, then write true (T) or false (F) for the following sentences.
Learning a language is, in some ways, like learning how to fly or play the piano. There some differences, but there is a very important similarity. It is this: learning how to do such things needs lots of practice. It is never enough simply to “know” something. You must be able to “do” things with what to know. For example, it is not enough simply to read a book on how to fly an aeroplane. A book can give you lots of information about how to fly, but if you only read a book and then try to fly without a great deal of practice first, you will crash and kill yourself. The same is true of learning the piano or learning a foreign language. Can you speak English well without having lots of practice? “Practice makes perfect” is what every learner of a foreign language should know.
