Write an essay (150 - 300 words) about this topic:

During the last twenty years, the assessment of students has undergone a major transformation. Many educational institutions have shifted their focus from traditional examination towards a variety of innovative assessment techniques, as they believe traditional examination results are not often true to student’s ability. To what extent do you agree with this? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

It is likely today that school children will take fewer exams than before, which are thought of as traditional method to judge a student’s academic proficiency. Instead, a student’s ability will be assessed constantly throughout the school year. Personally, I believe that this trend has its benefits and drawbacks. The reason for this trend may involve in the recognition that a student who takes too many exams is liable to suffer from pressure from their parents and peers when he or she gets bad results at school. Therefore, the option of creating fewer exams may reduce the burdens of studying on students themselves. In addition, students will have more time to improve other skills rather than concentrating on solely their studies. Consequently, they can develop better and more comprehensively. However, this is far from enough to do away with traditional exams. There should be some primary exams such as middle-term and final exams in order for students to study and accumulate knowledge. Imagine if there were not any exams, many students would probably waste their time doing such worthless things as playing violent games and even committing crime. Providing them with exams may keep them busy with their studies and curb unwanted problems arising. Besides, scores based on students’ exam results can evaluate their learning capacity more accurately and efficiently. That’s why we should not take traditional exams for granted and ignore them at any cost.
To sum up, moving away with traditional exams might not be an optimal method, which could be rejected if there were more relevant solutions to this issue.

The education is always estimated as the roof of every development in the society and it has often reformed to achieve the effective way in the assessment of students. In two recent decades, many solutions have given to shift the conventional examination method towards an examination system which exams students' ability effectively. I personally agree with this innovation and this essay will give the reasons for this statement.

On the one hand, the traditional assessment has shown its disadvantages because it was mostly based on the learning by heart skill and ability to memorize of students. The students who had a good memory often got the high point than others. Sometimes, the excellent students could be judged in a wrong way when they were suddenly sick and ill or having trouble thing on the examination days. Besides, some students could have a treat during the text happing by looking at the documents and books and the other students; some of them could be lucky when they guessed the exam questions and it came true. Therefore, due to its disadvantages, the traditional assessment examined students' ability in a not true way.

On the another hand, the innovative assessment allows educational institutions and universities to evaluate their students more exactly. The students should be the people who can give practical methods in order to solve matters in the real life. Nowadays, many universities ask their students to do thesis after each course and student's thesis or study can indicate the current problem and giving solutions for improvement of the students. Many educational educations give the oral examination. This method means the students and panel will face to face to discuss the matters. Apart from memory skill, students are asked to show other skills like the ability to communicate, persuade and so on. For example, in Law University, through the interview, students have been given a situation and they will have the chance to apply the law regulation to resolve the matter.

For the reasons I mentioned above, I strongly agree with the education reform and I believe that the more innovation assessment in education is given, the more effective results we will be received.
