Đêm giao thừa có lẽ là đêm mà người người nhà nhà xóm chợ quê em chờ đợi nhất. Tiếng pháo hoa nổ vang trời, tiếng reo hò ầm ĩ và lời chúc nhau bình an. Sáng mùng 1 Tết, mẹ thường bảo mấy chị em ở nhà, không được đến nhà ai, vì ở quê em có tục lệ như vậy. Hôm đó ai cũng dậy thật sớm, dù không phải làm gì hết. Nhưng vì đây là ngày đầu tiên của một năm mới, ai cũng háo hức và hi vọng những điều tốt đẹp sẽ đến.
Những mâm cơm ngày Tết rất đông vui và ý nghĩa, mọi người vui vẻ và đầm ấm bên nhau, kể cho nhau nghe dự định cho năm mới, còn trẻ con thì chỉ lo người lớn quên lì xì.
Tết ở quê em kéo dài đến tận mùng 10, vì mọi người bảo hết bánh kẹo mới hết Tết. Nhà nào cũng gói bánh chưng rất nhiều nên ăn không hết.
