Before Tet, streets are decorated with coloured lights and red banners. Shops are full of goods. People are busy buying gifts, cleaning and decorating their houses and cooking traditional foods. On the days of Tet everyone tries to be nice and polite to each other. People visit other family members or friend. Children receive their '' luky money'' inside red invelops. Many people go to pagoda to pray for a happy year for themselves and their family. Tet is really a time of fun and festivals throughout the country.

Tết or Vietnamese New Year, is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese people usually return to their families during Tet. Some return to worship at the family altar or visit the graves of their ancestors in their homeland. They also clean the graves of their family as a sign of respect. At Tết, every house is usually decorated by apricot blossoms in the central and southern parts of Vietnam; or peach blossoms in the northern part of Vietnam.
