The Ancient Mexicans used to respect and fear the sun. They were frightened that the sun might stop rising. As a result, they used to make sacrifices so that the sun god would continue to give them day and night and the four seasons.
Farmers, however, used to worship the rain god almost as much as the sun god. Even today there are ruins of great pyramids they used to build to worship the sun and the rain gods.
Another popular god was the wind god, which took the form of a snake with feathers. This feathered snake was also the god of knowledge for the Ancient Mexicans. Under its influence, civilization spread throughout Mexico, which at that time was mostly a peaceful country with plenty of skilled craftsmen and traders. Unfortunately, news of this civilisation eventually spread, and Mexico was invaded from the far north. Later, other people called Aztecs settled in Mexico. At first they used to live on an island in a lake where Mexico city now is. The people used to grow maize and they built beautiful towns and temples, developing Mexico into one of the most advanced civilisations of the time.
