Have you ever wanted something crazily, worked and suffered for it, and then, after getting it you found out that it did not make you happy? This is the experience that most of the people who sought gold had got. In 1896, gold was discovered in the Klondike area of the Yukon, a remote part of northern Canada, and the great “gold rush” was on. Thousands of people came from many other places with one dream which was to get rich quickly. Some did. Some became millionaires overnight only to lose everything in a card game the next day. Others died because temperatures often dropped to - 50ºC, or else were murdered or killed in accidents or fighting. The style of life was rough and hard.
