SPEAKING Describe the photo. Have you ever stayed in a youth hostel? How are they different from hotels?
SPEAKING Describe the photo, which shows children having breakfast at a 'public school' in England. How is it different from the canteen at your school? Would you like to eat here? Why? / Why not?
- The picture shows a school cafeteria or eating room, where many students are gathered, all wearing their school uniforms. Some students are drinking milk from cups, while there is bread on the table. The room appears to be quite crowded with many students present. It can be assumed that it is a busy place, with students chatting and eating together.
- I think they are having breakfast at a 'public school' in England because they’re all wearing uniform and eating bread and drinking milk. They are popular things for breakfast there.
- At my school, we have a more modern-looking cafeteria with individual tables and chairs. The food is served from a counter and students can choose from a variety of options.
- If I can choose, I wouldn’t like to eat as in the picture because I like the feeling of being alone when I am eating and I can choose to eat any food I want at the canteen.
SPEAKING Work in pairs. Discuss the questions.
1. Have you ever visited any castles or palaces in Viet Nam? Which are the most famous ones? Why?
2. Do you recognise the palace in the photo? What do you know about it?
1. I haven’ visited any castles or palaces in VietNam before. However, I know some of the most famous ones such as Hue Imperial Citadel, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and the Ho Dynasty Citadel. These historical sites are significant because they showcase the country's rich history and cultural heritage.
2. I haven’t seen this palace before, but I guess it is the Hue Imperial Citadel.
SPEAKING Describe the photo. How is the footballer feeling? What has happened, do you think?
Looking at the picture I can see a footballer. She is on the football pitch but she looks so bad. I think she is having an injury with her leg while playing football.
SPEAKING Describe the photo. What are the people doing? What might they be saying?
Looking at the picture I see there are two girls, and they are looking at something. I guess they are looking for some pictures or some tours because I can see a lot of pictures in the background.
SPEAKING Describe the photo. What are the people discussing, do you think?
Looking at the picture, I can see the man and woman in the car are having a discussion about directions or navigation. The girl is holding a map and the man is pointing at it suggests that they may be trying to figure out where they are and where they need to go.
Read the writing task and the letter. Has the writer covered all four points in the task?
You are planning to visit Bristol in the UK this summer with a small group of friends and have been given a recommendation for a youth hostel. Write a letter to the youth hostel in which you
• give information about your group.
• inform them of the dates you want to stay and ask about availability.
• ask about food and drink.
• ask for suggestions about places to visit in Bristol.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to enquire about a visit to your youth hostel in Bristol next month. I'll be travelling to Bristol with three mates from school. All four of us are female and aged seventeen or eighteen. We're planning to stay for seven nights between 10 and 17 August. Please tell me whether you have beds available for those dates. I'd also like to know whether your youth hostel has a café or restaurant. If not, would it be possible to recommend any places to eat near the hostel which are not too expensive? This will be our first visit to Bristol. Although I have read about the city on the internet, I'd love to hear any tips for places to visit in the city. I look forward to getting an answer from you in due course so that we can finalise the details of our visit.
Yours faithfully,
Hazel Jones

Bài tham khảo
A: Hey! Do you see this photo? There's a phone on a bench in the park.
B: Yeah, I see it. What do you think happened?
A: Well, someone might have left it there accidentally.
B: Or they must have intentionally left it there while they went for a run or something.
A: It can't have been there for too long, though, or someone would have taken it.
B: Right, or maybe the owner came back to get it.

You have recently moved to a different house, and you want to give the news to an English-speaking friend in another country. In your letter,
• tell your friend the news.
• explain why you have moved.
• describe your new house.
• invite your friend to come and visit.
Write at least 150 words.
Dear Bob,
I hope everything is fine. I have some exciting news to share with you. I recently moved to a new house! The decision to move was a difficult one, but it was necessary for my family and me to be closer to our workplaces and in a more family-friendly neighborhood.
Our new house is fantastic! It is a spacious two-story house with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room, and a modern kitchen. The house has a big backyard with a garden, which is perfect for us to play in. We also have a garage and a driveway, so we don't have to worry about finding a parking space on the street.
We would love for you to come and visit us in our new home! You can stay in one of our guest rooms, and we can explore the city together. We could go to the local attractions, try new restaurants, and watch movies together.
I hope you can come and visit us soon!
Love,
Janet

Janet
