Last weekend my friends, Nick and Paul, came (Example)...to..... stay at my house.

Ann swam under the water, but she can’t -> couldn't find the man. A few moments later, saw the man at the side of the river.  He was with some friends and they were all laughing at her. At that moment, she realised that it was a silly joke. But shortly afterwards, two police officers arrive -> arrived to talk to the men.
