In scotland, the biggest celebration(1) of the year is "Hogmanay". "Hogmanay" is the scottish word for New Year 'Eve. on 31st december in edinburgh, there is enormous firework display(2) at the castle and they play live music in the park. Thousands of people gather(3) in the streets, coffees and bars. Then at 12o'colock, church bells ring(4) all over the city. After midnight people go "first footing". This is a scottish custom (5) that dates back hundreds of years. "First footing" is visiting your neighbours after midnight (6) on New Year's Eve. The visitors must step into the house with their right foot step first, to bring(7) good luck. Traditionally, the visitors brings three gifts(8): a piece of coal and a little whisky. The gifts symbolize (9) warmth, food and happiness. If the first person who visits your home after midnight is a man with dark hair, that is particularly(10) lucky.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and (1)…one.. of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It lies on seven hills and goes down those hills to the sea. The highest hill is three hundred metres above the sea. From the street (2)…in. the centre of the city you can see ships coming to Edinburgh from different countries of the world.

In the “old town” the streets (3)…are…. narrow. The tall houses with narrow windows go up the hills to Edinburgh castle, (4)…which…..is one thousand years old. The modern town lies at the (5)…age……. of the hills. The streets here are straight and well planned, (6)…because… it is easy to walk in the city when you (7)…are…… sightseeing in Edinburgh.
