Viet (Kinh) ethnic group

Name of ethnic group: Kinh (Viet). Population: About 65.8 million people (Year 1999). Locality: These people live in all provinces but are densely clustered in the delta areas and urban centres.

Customs and habits
The Kinh ancient villages are usually surrounded by bamboo groves. The communal house is a place for meeting and conducting common ritual ceremonies. The Kinh also live in mud houses. They enjoy the habits of chewing betel, smoking water pipes and cigarettes, drinking tea, and eating ordinary rice.

The husband is considered the head of the family. Children take the family name of their father. The eldest son is responsible for the worship of dead parents and grandparents. Each family lineage has a temple for their forefathers and the head of the family lineage handles all common affairs.

Monogamy is observed during marriage. The family of the man approves the marriage and organizes the wedding for him. After the wedding party, the bride goes to live with her husband's family. The Kinh attach much importance to fidelity and the virtues of the bride.

They worship their ancestors and also practice Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism or Christianity to various extents.

Culture
The Kinh have a rich collection of literature which includes old tales, folk ballads, and proverbs. The written literature takes many forms such as poems, writings, books, and edicts. Song, music, sculpture, painting, dance and performance are also well developed and popular.

Costumes
The traditional attire of the Kinh in the north is a brown pajama set for men. A four paneled robe, bra, and trousers for women, also in brown, are usually worn. In the southern delta plains, both men and women wear black pajamas. At present, the Kinh's costumes resemble western clothing.

Economy
Rice cultivation in submerged fields is the main economic activity of the Kinh. They also erect dykes and dig canals which help in the growing of wet rice, gardening, and sericulture. They also raise cattle and poultry. Pottery production has been very developed for a long time.

The Kinh, also called the Viet people, is the majority ethnic group of Vietnam, comprising about 86% of the population. The Kinh people settle along the whole Vietnam. Vietnamese is the native language of the Vietnamese (Kinh) people, as well as a first or second language for the many ethnic minorities of Vietnam. The Bahnar is an ethnic group of Vietnam living primarily in the Central Highland provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Turn, as well as the coastal provinces of Binh Đinh and Phu Yen. They speak a language in the Mon-Khmer language family. Like many of the other ethnic groups of Vietnam's Central Highlands, the Bahnar plays a great number of traditional musical instruments, including gongs and string instruments made from bamboo. These instruments are sometimes plaved in concert on special occasions

My favorite hobby is listening to music . I first started my hobby since the first time I have listened to US-UK music . I really love music because music helps me relax when I'm tired . I usually share my hobby to my best friend and my family . To do this hobby I have to finish my homework and make sure that there is enough time for me to listen to music . The Viet live everywhere in the country. They have the largest population. They have many kinds od food from North to South. They often celebrate many festivals during the year. They have the traditional costume such as : Ao Dai , Ao Ba Ba.....

1. Leisure activities is necessary for people after working and studying hard. And there are a lot of leisures activities you can do in your free time, such as: riding horse, riding a bike, playing football, playing badminton, watching TV..... But i like playing badminton most. It's one kind of exercising that'll make you enjoy it. It's an easy game. everyone can play it. To play badminton, you need a shuttlecock and rackets. You can play badminton with your parents, your brother or your sister in the morning. It's good for your health. Playing badminton has so many advantages, such as: It can improve your mind and your mood, it can help you keep fit and it's really fun. Because of these advantages, i love playing badminton very much.

2. There are many differences between life in the countryside and life in the city. Life in the countryside is slower than life in the city. It's not as interesting as life in the city. But i think life in the countryside is better for you. In the countryside, there are many things such as: rivers, wild flowers, cattles, paddy fields,.....They are all colorful. In the afternoon, i can fly kite along the rivers with my friends. That's very interesting. People here are very kind, friendly and helpful. I like them. If you visit my countryside, you should try to eat food here. It's very delicious and tasty. The air here is very fresh. It's not polluted. It's good for your health. The landscape is very vast. For of these reasons, i love my life in the countryside.If one day you feel tired, you can visit my countryside to relax

3. There are so many festivals in Viet Nam, such as: Hung King Temple festival, Do Son buffalo-fighting festival, Tet festival, Mid- autumn festival... But i like Tet festival most. It's also called New Year festival. It is a traditional festival in Viet Nam. It is anually held from 1\(^{st}\) to 3\(^{th}\) of the first lunar month of new year. It is the time for family reunion. After Tet, i usually go to the supermarket with my parents to buy new clothes for me and buy something to decorate the house. I clean my house with my mother, make Chung cake with my father. That's very interesting. At Tet, my family always gather to have some smalls party. I go to visit my relative with my family, so i can get lucky money from them. After Tet, i have much money so i can buy toys for me. In short,i want to say you, i love Tet very much. It's the most interesting festival i have ever attended.

because he is clever and cool . But Tom is funny , too. I like it because it helps

me relax after study hard.

I love watching TV very much. I like sports programmes. I watch TV 2-3 hours a day. The time I spend on ourdoor activities. I don't watch TV when I am eating. I watch sports programmes. I never leave my TV on when I am not watching it. I think I have a good TV watching habits. I will keep it in the future
