I. Khái niệm:
Lời nói trực tiếp (direct speech) là sự lặp lại chính xác những từ của người nói.
Lời nói gián tiếp (indirect/reported speech) là lời tường thuật lại ý của người nói, đôi khi không cần phải dùng đúng những từ của người nói.
II.3 nguyên tắc cần nhớ khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang gián tiếp:
Đổi ngôi, đổi tân ngữ
Lùi thì
Đổi cụm từ chỉ thời gian, nơi chốn

III. Cách chuyển câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp
1.Câu trực tiếp ở dạng câu kể/tường thuật:
Câu gián tiếp:

VD:
“I’m going to visit Japan next month”, she said. → She said that she was going to visit Japan the following month.
“He picked me up yesterday”, Lan said to me. → Lan said to me that he had picked her up the day before.
2.Câu trực tiếp ở dạng câu hỏi
Câu hỏi Yes/No question
Câu hỏi Yes/No question là câu hỏi mà người nghe sẽ phải lựa chọn trả lời Yes/No cho mỗi câu hỏi.
Câu gián tiếp:
S + | asked | if | + Clause |
VD:
“Do you love English?”, the teacher asked. → The teacher asked me if/whether I loved English.
“Have you done your homeworked yet?”, they asked. → They asked me if/whether I had done my homework yet.
Lưu ý: Nếu trong câu trực tiếp có từ “OR NOT” thì câu gián tiếp bắt buộc phải dùng WHETHER
“Does she roses or not?”, he wondered. → He wondered whether she d roses or not.
Câu hỏi Wh-questions
Câu hỏi Wh-questions là câu hỏi bắt đầu bằng từ hỏi Wh- (What, Where, When, Which, Why, How…)
Câu gián tiếp:
S + | asked | + Clause (Wh-word + S + V(thì)) |
VD:
“Where do you live, Nam?”, asked she. → She asked Nam where he lived.
3. Câu trực tiếp ở dạng câu mệnh lệnh (Vinf/ Don’t + Vinf, please)
Câu gián tiếp:
S + | asked/told/ordered/advised/wanted/warned | + sb + (not) to Vinf |
VD:
“Open the book page 117, please”,the teacher said. → The teacher asked us to open the book page 117.
“Don’t touch that dog”, he said. → He asked/told me not to touch that dog.

2. Cách đặt câu hỏi trong tiếng Anh
a. Các bước đặt câu hỏi trong tiếng Anh
– Đầu tiên bạn đặt câu khẳng định trước, cố gắng nghĩ nhẩm trong đầu.
– Tiếp đó xem trong câu khẳng định có sẵn động từ “to be” không, nếu có thì chỉ việc đảo động từ lên trước chủ ngữ.
– Nếu trong câu không có động từ “to be” thì sử dụng trợ động từ như: “do/does/did”
– Tùy vào mục đích để hỏi mà sử dụng các từ để hỏi
b. Cách đặt câu hỏi Yes/No
Trong cách đặt câu hỏi Yes/No này bạn có thể sử dụng động từ “to be” hoặc trợ động từ để hỏi. Các động từ đó là (am, is, are…), can, could, should, may, might, will, shall, do, does, did, have, has, had…
Cấu trúc:
– To Be +S + N/Adj/V-ing (các thì tiếp diễn)/Vpp(bị động)/prep + N
Ex: Is he a student? (Bạn có phải là học sinh không?)
– Do/Did (not) + S + V-bare…? (Dùng cho các thì đơn)
Ex: Do you want something to eat? (Bạn có muốn ăn gì đó không?)
– Will/Shall] + S + V-bare…? (Dùng cho các thì tương lai)
Ex: Will you stay with us for dinner? (Bạn sẽ ở lại ăn tối với tụi mình chứ?)
– Has/Have/Had+ S + Vpp…? (Dùng cho các thì hoàn thành & hoàn thành tiếp diễn)
Ex: Has she had dinner? (Cô ấy ăn tối chưa?)
– Can, could, may, might, must + S + V?
Ex: Can you swim? (Bạn có biết bơi không?)
c. Cách đặt câu hỏi trong tiếng Anh để lấy thông tin
*** Cách đặt câu hỏi với “What” và “Who”
Đây là câu hỏi khi muốn biết chủ ngữ hay chủ thể của hành động.
Cấu trúc: Who/What + V + ………..
Ex:
Something happened lastnight => What happened last night?
Someone opened the door. => Who opened the door?
*** Cách đặt câu hỏi tiếng Anh với “Whom” và “What”
Đây là các câu hỏi dùng khi muốn biết tân ngữ hay đối tượng tác động của hành động
Cấu trúc: Whom/ What + trợ động từ (do/ did/ does) + S + V + …..?
Ex:
George said something with his mother. => What did George say with his mother?
*** Cách đặt câu hỏi với When, Where, How và Why
Dùng khi muốn biết nơi chốn, thời gian, lý do, cách thức của hành động.
Cấu trúc: When/ Where/ Why/ How + trợ động từ (be, do, does, did) + S + V + bổ ngữ (+ tân ngữ)?
