Ha Long Bay is one of the best wonders of Viet Nam and it is listed in the list of seven wonders of the world. It is located in Quang Ninh, a district in the Northeast of this little country. With the beautiful blue water, sandy beach, various of shapes and sizes, Ha Long Bay easily attracted tourists from nationwide wide and from all over the world. The tourists who visit here, especially the forgieners, said that the food is delicious. Not only does it delicious, but the price is also fit the pocket and the people around are nice and kind. It is Ha Long Bay is in Quang Ninh province. It is very far. It's about 100km from my house. I can get there by bus. It's very very beatiful. It has many islands, caves and seafood. I take a boat ride to Tuan Trau islands and sunbathe on the beach. I hope I'll have a chance to visit is next summer.

Local legend says that long ago when the Vietnamese were fighting Chinese invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to help defend the land. This family of dragons began spitting out jewels and jade. These jewels turned into the islands and islets dotting the bay, linking together to form a great wall against the invaders. The people kept their land safe and formed what later became the country of Vietnam. After that, dragons were interested in peaceful sightseeing of the Earth and decided to live here then. The place where Mother Dragon flew down was named Hạ Long, the place where the dragon children attended upon their mother was called Bái Tử Long island (Bái: attend upon, Tử: children, Long: dragon), and the place where the dragon children wriggled their tails violently was called Bạch Long Vỹ island (Bạch: white- colour of the foam made when Children Dragon wriggle, Long: dragon, Vỹ: tail).

Halong bay is in northeastern Vietnam, from E106°56' to E107°37' and from N20°43' to N21°09'. The bay stretches from Yên Hưng district, past Hạ Long city, Cẩm Phả town to Vân Đồn district, bordered on the south and southeast by the Gulf of Tonkin, on the north by China and on the west and southwest by Cát Bà island. The bay has a 120 kilometre long coastline and is approximately 1,553 square kilometres in size with 1969 islets. The area designated by UNESCO as the World Natural Heritage Site includes 434 km² with 775 islets, of which the core zone is delimited by 69 points: Đầu Gỗ island on the west, Ba Hầm lake on the south and Cống Tây island on the east. Halong bay has the typical diurnal tide system (tide amplitude ranges from 3.5-4m). The salinity is from 31 to 34.5MT in dry season and lower in rainy season.

Located in Hạ Long and Bái Tử Long, there are symbolic archaeological sites such as Mê Cung, sexest bay, and Thiên Long. There are mounds of remains of mountain shellfishes (Cyclophorus) and spring shellfishes (Melania), some fresh water mollusk and some rudimentary labour tools. The main living procedures of Soi Nhụ's habitants were catching shellfish and fish, collecting fruits and digging for bulbs and roots. Their living environment is coastal area unlike other Vietnamese cultures, for example those found in Hoà Bình, Bắc Sơn, etc.

Khi các du khách thập phương có cơ hội đi du lịch và đến tham quan mảnh đất này thì chắc hẳn ai cũng sẽ phải cảm thấy tò mò về tên gọi và nguồn gốc lịch sử của nó. Điều đó liên quan đến một truyền thuyết cổ xưa do người dân người dân địa phương kể lại. Tương truyền vào đời Hùng Vương thứ sáu, ở làng Nghĩa Lộ có chàng trai tuấn tú tên là Hùng Sơn, nghe tiếng mõ truyền, theo thánh Gióng đánh giặc Ân. Hùng Sơn được cử làm tướng tiên phong, chỉ huy chặn giặc trên biển. Lúc bấy giờ, các ông phải dùng thuyền nhỏ bí mật ra các đảo ngoài khơi xa lập trận đồ đợi giặc tới, còn các bà ở lại đảo lớn phía sau tăng gia sản xuất, chuyên lo việc hậu cần. Ngày chiến thắng, vua Hùng nghe được câu chuyện cảm động đó bèn xuống chiếu đặt tên cho hòn đảo, nơi đóng đại bản doanh của Hùng Sơn là Các Ông (thuộc vịnh Hạ Long) và hòn đảo của những người phụ nữ yêu nước chờ chồng, động viên các ông đánh giặc là Các Bà mà bây giờ tên của hòn đảo đó chúng ta đọc chệch thành Cát Bà.

Đảo Cát Bà là tấm thảm xanh khổng lồ chứa đựng nhiều bí ẩn, hấp dẫn. Tổng diện tích đảo rộng hơn 26.000 ha, với 2 vùng lõi (bảo tồn nghiêm ngặt và không có tác động của con người), 2 vùng đệm (cho phép phát triển kinh tế hạn chế song kết hợp với bảo tồn) và 2 vùng chuyển tiếp (phát triển kinh tế). Đảo Cát Bà là vùng hội tụ đầy đủ cả rừng mưa nhiệt đới trên đảo đá vôi, rừng ngập mặn, các rạn san hô, thảm rong và đặc biệt là hệ thống hang động. Khí hậu trên đảo rất mát mẻ, trong lành, thích hợp cho du lịch nghỉ dưỡng. Ðịa hình vườn đa dạng, chủ yếu là dãy núi đá vôi với nhiều hang động kì thú và xen kẽ là những bãi cát trắng phau, mịn màng, nơi du khách tắm biển. Các ngọn núi đá vôi có độ cao trung bình 150m, cao nhất là đỉnh Cao Vọng, cao 322m so với mặt biển.

Ngày nay, Cát Bà được thiên nhiên ban tặng cho rất nhiều các hòn đảo nhỏ có tên gọi riêng đặc sắc như: hòn Cát Ông, hòn Cát Đuối, hòn Mây, hòn Quai Xanh, hòn Tai Kéo,… mỗi hòn đảo đều có hình dáng khác nhau tạo thành quần đảo du lịch nổi tiếng sạch đẹp này.

Đến với Cát Bà ta còn được ngắm nhìn một thảm rừng nhiệt đới xanh tươi với các kiểu thổ nhưỡng đặc biệt. Đây là khu rừng nguyên sinh với nhiều loài động thực vật phong phú và là khu Vườn quốc gia lớn nhất Việt Nam. Vườn quốc gia Cát Bà có tổng diện tích 15.200 ha trong đó 9.800 ha là rừng và diện tích biển là 4.500 ha. Trong đó có nhiều loại cây gỗ quý, có giá trị, thân cao thẳng vút, tán lá xum xuê, tỏa hương thơm ngát như: kim giao, lát hoa, săng lẻ,… Cùng nhiều loại động vật quý hiếm trên thế giới như: khướu, đại bành đất, coa cát, voọc đầu trắng (loài động vật được đưa vào sách đỏ, chỉ còn duy nhất trên đảo Cát Bà), tắc kè, khỉ mặt đỏ, sơn dương, sóc đuôi cờ,… Nơi đây cũng có suối nước khoáng phong phú không kém cùng rừng ngập mặn như kiểu rừng của miền Nam Bộ nước ta, loài cây sinh sống chủ yếu là cây ú, vẹt, đước. Với phạm vi che phủ rộng 2000 ha, các rừng ngập mặn ở đây có vai trò quan trọng về sinh thái và kinh tế bởi đây là nơi sinh trưởng của nhiều loài động vật gồm 20 loài thú, 69 1oài chim, 20 loài bò sát và lưỡng cư, 11 loài ếch nhái. Nếu đi xuyên rừng 5km nữa, chúng ta sẽ gặp một cảnh quan độc đáo của Vườn quốc gia đó là Ao Ếch. Đây là đầm nước ngọt duy nhất, rộng khoảng 3,2 ha nằm trên núi cao.

Bên cạnh đó, Cát Bà còn nổi tiếng với những hang động đẹp. Nếu động Trung Trang có nhiều nhũ đá đẹp mà rất rộng rãi, có thể chứa tới hàng trăm người thì động Hùng Sơn lại có ý nghĩa như một chứng tích lịch sử quan trọng trong cuộc kháng chiến chống Mĩ. Đây đã từng là một bệnh viện với hàng trăm giường nằm trong lòng núi. Ngoài ra còn có động Phù Long (động Cái Viềng), nơi có nhiều hang động đẹp. Không những vậy, tên động còn gắn với một truyền thuyết ứng với vết tích thiên nhiên còn hiện hữu ở khu vực này. Cùng với dãy Phù Long, còn có động Thiên Long rộng và sâu với những nhũ đá nhiều màu sắc đẹp mắt. Những cột đá khổng lồ nhiều hình thù được bao bọc bởi những rễ cây ăn vắt vẻo đung đưa từ đỉnh núi xuống động. Điểm đến thứ tư là động Đá Hoa Cương, ngay từ tên gọi cũng mang cho mọi người những liên tưởng độc đáo. Tuy nhiên, vì kết cấu bên trong của động là những hệ thống nhũ đá còn nguyên vẹn nên khi có ánh sáng chiếu vào những nhũ đá óng ánh như kim cương thật là đẹp mắt, mỗi hình dáng khác nhau nhưng phải mất một thời gian khá dài để nước bào mòn đá tạo thành những nhũ đá lộng lẫy sống động cùng thời gian. Thiên nhiên thật kì thú, sự hoà trộn của rừng và biển mang lại cho vùng đất này những thắng cảnh tuyệt đẹp.

Ngoài ra, Cát Bà còn được nhiều người biết đến với các bãi tắm đẹp, cát trắng, nước xanh, sóng êm,… Có thể kể đến các bãi tắm như: Cát Dứa, Cát Ông, Cát Đá Bằng,… Đây là những bãi tắm nhỏ xinh, kín đáo với cát trắng mịn, nước biển có độ mặn cao, trong suốt, nhìn rõ cả nền cát vàng dưới đáy ; phía trước trông ra biển cả mênh mông, phía sau và hai bên là vách núi như bức tường thành. Tại đây du khách sẽ được đắm mình dưới dòng nước trong xanh, mát rượi thoả thích nô đùa cùng sóng nước.Chẳng biết từ bao giờ, những con sóng gặm nhấm sâu vào vách đá tựa như người họa sĩ nào dày công đẽo gọt tạo thành tác phẩm đặc sắc nhất.

Với những bãi biển bao la đó, Cát Bà là nơi cư trú, sinh sôi của nhiều hải sản như bào ngư, ngọc trai, cá vược, cá ngừ,… có nhiều nhà bè nuôi hải sản tại Bến Bèo cung cấp đặc sản cho thành phố như: tôm he, ruốc cá ngừ, rượu bào ngư, nước mắm Vạn Vân,… Trong đó nhiều loại có thể dùng làm nguyên liệu sản xuất hàng mỹ nghệ quý như đồi mồi, tôm rồng, trai ngọc, san hô, vỏ trai, ốc biển,…

Đến với Cát Bà ta còn được thưởng thức những món ăn đặc trưng của biển, các loại hải sản tươi sống được đánh bắt và dưới bàn tay lành nghề của các đầu bếp nơi đây chắc hẳn sẽ làm xao xuyến bao thực khác muôn phương với những hương vị hấp dẫn không thể chối từ.

Cũng giống như những vùng miền trên khắp mọi nơi của tổ quốc, ở Cát Bà có nhiều lễ hội và trò chơi dân gian. Đặc biệt, nếu ai đến thăm Cát Bà vào ngày 1/4 – ngày Bác Hồ về thăm huyện đảo, ta còn được xem lễ hội đua thuyền rồng, các cuộc thi đấu thể thao, văn nghệ, hay các trò chơi dân gian gắn liền với đặc trưng của biển gồm: hội xuống biển, bơi thuyền thúng,… mang đậm hào khí lễ hội truyền thống. Chắc hẳn ai cũng sẽ thấy hào hứng và thích thú.
