I love going to different festivals. I went to a great festival in my town last week called Summer Fun. They hold so many great things there. There were lots of stands selling traditional foods and drinks. I ate so much. They also had lots of shows. I watched the fashion show and the talent show. I didn't have time to watch the puppet show, and I think puppets are boring. My friend, Jane, and I did the lug of war. We lost but it was still fun. My favorite thing was the music performance at the end. It wasn't Jane's favorite, though. Hers was the talent show. I can't wait for next year's festival. I'm going to bring all my friends.

Elephant Racing Festival, one of the biggest festivals in Tay Nguyen, is held annually in the third lunar month. As preparation for the festival, villagers feed their elephants with a wide range of food:  grass, corns, sugar canes, sweet potatoes, papayas, and bananas. Also, in order to preserve their strength, the elephants take a rest without hard work.

On the day of the event, elephants from several villages gather at Don Village. Each time, ten elephants will run at the same time for about one or two kilometers. The competition is guided by the sound of tu va, a kind of horn. The winning elephant will receive a laurel wreath as a sign of victory, and it will enjoy sugar canes and bananas from surrounding people. After finishing the race at Don Village, the elephants move to Serepok River for swimming competition.

Although people love festivals very much, there are also some disadvantages. First, festivals are very costly. Because the general purpose of festivals is to preserve cultural heritages, a nation is willing to spend a lot of money on this. Moreover, during a festival, most people do not work but spend money on expensive gifts for their friends and relatives. Second, festivals can be dangerous. People may drink a lot during a festival and cause road accidents. In many festivals, there are races like cow-racing and elephant racing which may be dangerous, especially for children. Moreover, in some festivals, when people rush to see the events, they may also cause other people to get hurt. Third, festivals may affect the environment. After a festival, the roads are full of colorful paper, flowers, waste cans or bottles that people throw away. Trees along the roadsides may be damaged by the crowds. Furthermore, the noise from music and other performances also cause noise pollution.
