Questions: 6-10:
SCHOOL COUNTS THE COST OF STORM
When children and parents arrived at school in the small village of Brownston yesterday morning, they were surprised to see the head teacher standing outside the front of the school. The school gates were closed, because a tree had fallen onto the roof of the school hall and a number of windows were broken. A storm the night before had made school buildings unsafe, so the children were sent home until further notice.
Justine Cram, a mother with two young children at the school, said that she was unhappy with the way the head teacher sent the children home. ‘I have to cancel all my work appointments today. My customers won't be pleased, but I have to stay at home to look after my daughters,' she said. 'Children should be in school every day! The head teacher needs to think again about closing. He should find a safe place to teach the children until they can use the buildings again.'
Richard Thomas, the head teacher, explained that he had no choice but to send the children home. ‘The storm happened in the early hours of Monday morning, just a few hours before school starts. When I arrived, I immediately decided it was not a safe place for children to be in. I know parents are unhappy that the school is closed, but if their children or members of staff were hurt because of the problems, that would be worse.'

Read the following passage and answer the questions below
Today is the first day of the new school year. Behind the school gate everything looks bright and clean. The smell of fresh paint greets all the students in their uniforms. Most of them have already known one another quite well. However, there are some newcomers. Some of the old students gather in small group and talk to one another in the school yard. Others are eager to help the newcomers. It’s difficult for newcomers to make friends and get into games in a new school. Sometimes they do not know the new regulations so they talk or do things differently. All the students look eager to start the new school year.
