THE SCHOOL LIBRARY

A library is a collection of books. But it is not a book-shop, for it does not sell books. It is a temple of learning. In the past, people had to go to a teacher to learn from him. But how easy and cheap it is to get knowledge and wisdom today!

Today you can find libraries almost everywhere. These libraries are of two kinds – private and public. A private or personal library has books of the choice of only one person. So, it is not useful to all. But public libraries are meant for all. They have books to suit different tastes. Our schools and colleges, too, have libraries of their own. Such libraries are meant for students and teachers only. So, they have a wide variety of books.

A library is, therefore, a sacred place. You must have respect for this sacred place. It is not a fit place for talks or discussions. It is a place for serious studies. But one thing should never be forgotten. No library by itself has ever produced a Newton or a Tulsidas. A library can help you to some extent. But it cannot carry you very far. It cannot make you a poet or a scientist or a thinker if you do not study the great “Book of Life and Nature”. A great thinker thinks for himself. He does not see with the eyes of others.

Great books or great writers can only open your eyes. But they cannot see for you. You have to see things for yourself. If you only copy others you can be a scholar, but not a great thinker. A library very often makes you a book-worm. So, you have sometimes to come out of the library and move about a bee. Then and then alone can you give honey to the world.

My favourite after school activity is playing badminton. I usually play at least once or twice a week. There are some reasons why I like it. First, I can improve my health by playing it. It makes me feel energetic everyday. Furthermore, I enjoy the feeling of the badminton flying in the air. During the game, I can change the direction of badminton with little effort and beat my opponents. Besides that, I can make many friends when I play badminton. I often play it with various types of people. We can improve our skills through discussion and practice. Also, we can talk about many interesting things when we have a break. Finally, playing badminton is not as intense as other sports such as basketball or soccer. It lessens the possibility of being hurt. To sum up, playing badminton benefits a person not only physically but mentally as well.

Tet is a national and family festival. It is an occasion for every Vietnamese to have a good time while thinking about the last year and the next year. At Tet, spring fairs are organized, streets and public buildings are brightly decorated and almost all shops are crowded with people shopping for Tet. At home, every is tidied, special food is cooked,offerings of food, fresh water, flowers and betel are made on the family altar with burning joss- sticks scenting the air. First-footing is made when the lucky visitor comes and children are given lucky money wrapped in a red tiny envelope. Tet is also a time for peace and love. During Tet, children often behave well and friends, relatives and neighbors give each other best wishes for the new year.

Tuần nào cũng vậy, cứ đến chiều thứ bảy là khu phố em tổ chức buổi tổng vệ sinh làm sạch đường phố.

Chiều nay, đúng năm giờ, một hồi kẻng vang lên. Mỗi nhà cử một người tham gia nên buổi lao động nào cũng có đủ các lứa tuổi. Các cụ ông, cụ bà đầu tóc bạc phơ thường có mặt sớm hơn cả và vui vẻ chuyện trò trong khi chờ đợi. Các bà nội trợ đang bận nấu dở bữa cơm chiều nên thường có mặt sau cùng. Đám thanh niên tỏ ra rất phấn khởi, luôn miêng cười đùa. Khi mọi người đến đã đông đủ, bác tổ trưởng bắt đầu phân công công việc cho từng nhóm. Việc khơi thông cống rãnh quan trọng và vất vả nhất nên thường được giao cho thanh niên. Còn các cụ già và chúng em thì quét dọn đường phố cho sạch sẽ.

Ai nấy nhanh chóng bắt tay vào việc. Nhóm khơi cống đứng rải đều, nối tiếp nhau lùa bùn rác về một chỗ. Rác được xúc lên đem đi đổ, còn nước được dồn ra phía các hố ga. Chúng em dàn thành hàng ngang, cùng quét sạch mặt đường. Mấy bác bảo chúng em rảy nước và quét nhẹ tay cho đỡ bụi. Đi làm vệ sinh đường phố như thế này cũng là một công việc thú vị đối với chúng em.

Ở góc phố gần ngã tư có một đống gạch vữa ngổn ngang, cản lối đi lại. Mấy anh xúc đổ vào bồn rác cuối đường để xe của công ty vệ sinh chở đi. Chỉ chừng nửa giờ sau, công việc đã xong xuôi. Đường phố gọn gàng, sáng sủa hẳn ra.

Em nghĩ rằng thành phố sạch và xanh là điều mong muốn của tất cả chúng ta và đó cũng là một trong những tiêu chuẩn hàng đầu của một thành phố văn minh, hiện đại.

  The character that I love is Ariel in The little mermaid. She is a cute and friendly mermaid. She loved the prince and she tried to have legs like human to be with the prince. At the end, she married with the prince the she loved and they lived happily ever after. I think she was brave when she persue her love and she also make the mermaids be closer with human, dimiss the think that human are dangerous from her kingdom.

Today I’d like to talk to you about Harry Potter which is one of my favourite films. It was a fiction film telling a story about people in the wizarding world. The central character was Harry Potter, who used to be an orphan in the normal world before discovering that he was a wizard. Afterwards, he went to a special school called Howard where he taught him necessary skills to succeed in the wizarding world. He also had to deal with challenges in terms of study, friendship, love and even the fight against dark power. Harry Potter was recommended as a masterpiece that made me feel curious about it. Moreover, I had read the original novel before, and I really can’t put it down. So I guess the film would be as attractive as the book. I think the most important reason why I enjoyed this film was that it made me feel adventurous. It was really a fantastic film.

Hôm nay tôi muốn nói với bạn về Harry Potter, một trong những bộ phim yêu thích của tôi. Đó là một bộ phim viễn tưởng kể một câu chuyện về những con người trong thế giới phù thủy. Nhân vật chính là Harry Potter, cậu từng là một đứa trẻ mồ côi trong thế giới bình thường trước khi phát hiện ra rằng mình là một phù thủy. Sau đó, cậu đến một ngôi trường đặc biệt tên Howard, nơi dạy anh những kỹ năng cần thiết để có thể thành công trong thế giới phù thủy. Cậu cũng phải đương đầu với những thử thách về học tập, tình bạn, tình yêu và thậm chí là cuộc chiến chống lại thế lực đen tối. Harry Potter được xem như bộ phim xuất sắc nhất bấy giờ và điều đó khiến tôi cảm thấy tò mò về nó. Hơn nữa, tôi đã đọc cuốn tiểu thuyết gốc trước đó và tôi thực sự không thể đặt nó xuống. Vì vậy, tôi đoán bộ phim sẽ hấp dẫn như cuốn sách. Tôi nghĩ lý do quan trọng nhất khiến tôi thích bộ phim này là nó khiến tôi cảm thấy phiêu lưu. Đó thực sự là một bộ phim tuyệt vời.
