KHI NÀO DÙNG "BY", "FROM", "WITH" TRONG CÂU BỊ ĐỘNG?
Trong câu ở thể bị động, chủ thể hành động thường được giới thiệu bằng giới từ "by".
Ex: The decision has been approved by the committee.
Chúng ta có thể biến câu ở dạng bị động thành câu ở dạng chủ động nếu muốn dùng "from" như sau:
Ex:This decision has received approval from the committee.
Nhưng với tất cả các câu ở thể bị động chúng ta dùng "by" khi giới thiệu chủ thể hành động:
Ex: The car was turned over by a falling tree.
Ex: All the roofs on the houses in the village were ripped off by the tornado.
Ex: The visiting speaker was introduced by the club chairman.
Chỉ có trường hợp ngoại lệ duy nhất không dùng "by" là khi chúng ta nói về dụng cụ/vật thể được dùng cho hành động đó chứ không phải là nói về chủ thể của hành động.
Khi nói về dụng cụ/vật thể được dùng trong một hành động nào đó, chúng ta dùng "with", thay vì "by".
Ex: She was killed with a kitchen knife.
Ex: She was killed by an unknown assassin.
Ex: The palace was built with red bricks from the local brickyard.
Ex: The palace was built by a famous architect.
