Unit 4: Our customs and traditions

Today I’m going to tell you about the xoe dance, a traditional dance of the Thai ethnic group in VietNam. Thai people have followed this spiritual tradition for generations.

The xoe dance expresses people’s working life and wishes for a happy and wealthy life. It is performed in both public and private gatherings such as celebrations, festivals or family reunions.

The xoe dance has more than 30 forms based on the first six ancient forms. The most popular form is the xoe vong or ‘circle dance’ because it expresses social unity. People, young or old alike, join hands to make a circle around the fire and dance to the music. Besides the circle dance, there are dances with conical hats, paper fans or scarves.

Old people say they shouldn’t break with this tradition because it reflects Thai culture and lifestyle. As a Thai folk song goes, without the xoe dance, the rice won’t grow and people won’t get married.

In my family, we have 3 customs and traditions very important. (ở đây bạn nên dùng như thế này: we have three customs and traditions which are very important.)

Firstly, there is a custom in my (Vì ở đoạn trên bạn có dùng chủ từ là "we" nên ở đây mk dùng "our" cho hợp) family of visiting grandparents to having (have) lunch together on the second day of (at) Tet.

Secondly, we celebrate birthday for each member in family. At that time, we will be going (go) out to dinner ( trong câu này sử dụng cấu trúc to+V nên mk sẽ dùng to have dinner, còn dinner là danh từ) together.

Thirdly, there is a tradition of (sau giới từ of phải đi với 1 phrase hoặc V-ing nha bn, còn bn dùng 1 clause sau nó thì phải dùng that) we go out in the summer. Sometimes (sometimes, always luôn luôn có s ở cuối), we go to the sea or other places we have not been. (câu cuối này mk chưa hiểu ý nghĩa nên không sửa nha)

I think our customs and traditions are very meaning ful because they help us get closer and better understand each other

Last week we published an article that discussed why and how to establish family traditions. Traditions offer numerous benefits: they strengthen your family’s bonds, enrich the life you share together, contribute to your children’s well-being, and create lasting memories. For this reason, they form one of the three pillars of family culture.
Today we offer a list of over 60 specific family tradition ideas. You can incorporate some of these directly into your family, or use them as inspiration for creating your own traditions.
Before we get started, let’s cover a few things that will help ensure that your establishment of new traditions will be met with success:
While it’s tempting to go crazy with starting lots of traditions, shoot for quality over quantity. If you do a couple from within each category, you’re gold.
Choose traditions that most resonate with you. Having said that, as you review the list, try not to immediately write off some as silly or not elaborate enough. This isn’t only about what appeals to you as a jaded adult, but what will appeal to your kids. If you think back to your childhood, some surprisingly silly and simple stuff was a lot of fun and created great memories.
Traditions need to be practiced regularly to be effective. It’s easy to throw a tradition out the window when life gets busy and you’ve had a long day. Commit to the tradition and do your best to be as consistent as possible with it.

=> People follow the traditon of getting together on Tet holiday

8/ People follow the traditon of visiting relatives on Tet holiday

=> There's a tradition that people visit relatives on Tet holiday

9/ In our district, it's the costum for residents to sweep the street on Saturday moring

=> In our district, there's a tradition that residents sweep the street on Saturday moring

10/ Women break with traditon by shaking stranger's hands

=> Women don't follow the tradition of not shaking stranger's hands
