Living in Scotland
Scotland is the uk's most northern country and has around 790 islands off its coasts - 130 of which have people living on them. Scotland is well known for its stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches and lochs, which are fresh water lakes. There are over 600 square miles of lochs in Scotland including the most famous one, Loch Ness.
It has a population of just over five million people which is about 8.5 per cent of the whole UK population. Over 2 million of these live on Glasgow and Edinburgh, and almost half of Scotland's population live in the Central Belt, where both the largest city (Glasgow), and the capital city (Edinburgh) are located.
Scotland also hosts one of the biggest arts festivals in the world. This is commonly known as the Edinburgh Festival but is actually made up of a number of different festivals which happen at different times of the year, though many do take place in August and September. Fabrizio from Venice: Of course, there’s a lot to see in Venice. It’s one of the most famous cities in the world. First of all, there are the canals. We don’t have cars in Venice so you have to travel everywhere by canal. The most famous place in Venice is the square. St. Mark’s Square with St. Mark’s Cathedral. Yumi from Kyoto: For me, Kyoto is the most beautiful city in Japan. It’s also the oldest city. It has many old traditional buildings, and beautiful palaces, temples and gardens. The day celebrates the greatest things in Australia culture- the history, the land , the people and their most important achievements. People organized thousands of fantastic events all over the country. January is the hottest month in Australia because lots of events are outside. In Sydney, the biggest city in Australia, the day starts 5.30 a.m with a barbecue breakfast. Then there is a traditional ceremony of Aboriginal singing and dancing. In the afternoon, there are boat races, concerts, fair and special sports competitions.
