\(=\left(x^2+x\right)-\left(xy+y\right)\)

\(=x\left(x+1\right)-y\left(x+1\right)\)

b) \(x^2+2xy-4x-8y\)

\(=x\left(x+2y\right)-4\left(x+2y\right)\)

\(\left(x-4\right)\left(x+2y\right)\)

c) \(x^3-x^2-x+1\)

\(=x^2\left(x-1\right)-\left(x-1\right)\)

\(=\left(x-1\right)\left(x^2-1\right)\)

\(=\left(x-1\right)^2\left(x+1\right)\)
