Có nhiều lời khuyên học tiếng anh qua bài hát. Đây là một phương pháp học khá thông minh lợi dụng hiện tượng tắm ngôn ngữ. 

Tuy nhiên, uyện tiếng anh qua bài hát là một ý tưởng tồi với người mới bắt đầu.

Đa số các bài hát được viết chú trọng chủ yếu giai điệu và ca từ. Do đó, ngữ pháp được sử dụng có nhiều điểm sai và không chính xác. Nhất là nếu bạn không vững ngữ pháp, bạn có thể không nhận biết rõ điểm ngữ pháp nào đúng, điểm nào sai. Sẽ rất tệ nếu bạn vô tình học theo những điểm ngữ pháp sai rồi đem chúng vào áp dụng.

Các phát âm của những từ ngữ bạn nghe được qua các bài hát thường khó nghe, và nó không giống với cách người bản xứ nói và phát âm khi giao tiếp thông thường.

Ca sĩ phải sử dụng những kỹ thuật thanh nhạc như luyến láy, thay đổi cao độ, cường độ… để thể hiện bài hát thành công. Bạn khó có thể học ngữ điệu, cách phát âm chuẩn mà người bản xứ dùng khi giao tiếp bằng cách nghe những bài hát.

Từ ngữ sử dụng trong bài hát thường khó hiểu. Khó hiểu bởi lẽ bài hát là tác phẩm nghệ thuật và nó mang tính “thơ ca”. Từ ngữ trong lời bài hát có thể thể hiện nhiều ý nghĩa hơn là nghĩa đen thông thường.

Câu từ trong lời bài hát cũng không phải là cách mà người bản xứ dùng để nói chuyện trong tình huống thông thường. (Bạn chỉ cần liên tưởng đến những câu từ trong bài hát Việt Nam và cách chúng ta dùng tiếng Việt trong giao tiếp thông thường thì sẽ rõ.)
