Các số hạng của tổng 15 + 12 + 9 + 6 + ... kể từ số hạng thứ hai đều kém số hạng đứng ngay trước nó là 3 đơn vị.

Mặt khác ta nhận thấy tổng của 3 số hạng đầu tiên là :

       15 + 12 + 9 = 36

Vì vậy ta có thể bổ sung thêm 4 số hạng nữa vào tổng đã cho để được tổng bằng 36

Ta được : 36 = 15 + 12 + 9 + 6 + 3 + 0 - 3 - 6

Vậy tổng ở vế phải của đẳng thức có 8 số hạng với số hạng cuối cùng là -6.
