❤Enjoying the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin❤
The tidal basin is a great place any time of the year. It’s where I go for a walk or a jog or to visit the Martin Luther King, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Jefferson Memorials and where I often go to unwind and enjoy the scenery. But the place is very special in early spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and the paddle boats are on the water. The blossoms were a little late this year. I made sure to be at the tidal basin when the pink blooms first appeared on April 8th. The cherry blossoms and blooming magnolia trees mark the official start of spring and the beginning of tourist season in Washington, D.C. I beat the crowds at the tidal basin by going early. It’s one of the perks of living nearby.
Forget about driving and parking near the tidal basin. There are few parking spaces and they fill up fast. I use the Metro, get off at the Smithsonian Metro Station and walk down Independence Avenue toward the Washington Monument. It’s a short walk from the monument to the tidal basin and it’s a beautiful walk in the spring. If you come to Washington for the cherry blossoms, be sure to stop at the Enid A. Haupt Garden for the magnificent display of magnolias, which are equally impressive. This Garden is near the Smithsonian Castle on Independence Avenue, a block from the Smithsonian Metro Station.
