Topic 1
Dear Jennie,
The place I feel most wonderful is Hoi An. There are many interesting things you can do here, but I think with one day you are able to do three things. First, you can go for a walk around the streets surrounded by the atmosphere of times gone by. Especially, if you visit the town during the full moon, you can enjoy the beautiful lights from colourful lanterns. Secondly, you can get some new threads. One of Hoi An’s biggest tourist drawing cards are the tailors that line the streets in the centre of town. Whatever you want to be made, someone can make it happen as quickly as within 24 hours. Last but not least, as a cuisine lover, you should definitely treat yourself with various special dishes here. I suggest that you try Cao Lau with an authentic taste at Mermaid Restaurant. If you want to find something a little adventurous, you can also taste egg coffee at Cafe 57, my favourite shop. Believe me! It would be really worth a try. Tell me when you’re coming so I can take you to travel around.
Look forward to seeing you soon!
Best wishes,
Yen Nguyen.
TOPIC 2:
Life in modern cities truly causes a lot of nuisances. In the first place, citizens have to deal with traffic congestion every day. This problem is even worse in the rush hour when so many people run out to work and are stuck on the streets for hours. Next, the high cost of living is also a serious issue in the city, especially in metropolitan cities. More and more people find it difficult to live on their modest salaries when prices are going up all the time. Financial pressure makes city dwellers become constantly stressed and tired. Finally, the polluted air caused by exhaust emissions from millions of vehicles, construction dust and the lack of green trees negatively affects residents’ health. Many people suffer from respiratory problems such as cough, sore throat or asthma. Indeed, city life brings a number of difficulties as well as challenges to its citizens.
TOPIC 2:
Nowadays, more and more people want to live in the city because of its advantages. However, living in a city has several drawbacks. Firstly, there are traffic jams. On the roads, especially rush hours, many vehicles are moving on the same road and it caused traffic jams. The increase in population and numbers of owner vehicles have caused traffic accidents every day. Public transport is uncomfortable and inefficient for most people. Secondly, air pollution has negative effects on people's health, animals, vegetation and buildings. More and more city people suffer coughing or breathing problems because air contains foreign materials or gases such as carbon dioxide, sulphur and nitrogen beyond the prescribed limit. Thirdly, the city is noisy. Noise pollution comes from machines, vehicles, industrial factories. It may affect the mind, health and behaviour. Or cause physical discomfort and temporary or permanent damage to hearing. Moreover, It also makes headache, irritability deafness, stress and high blood pressure. In short, living in a city has both advantages and drawbacks. If we want to live in the city, we must learn how to protect ourselves from these drawbacks.
