Tet is a traditional holiday of our country, Vietnam.

It often begins in late-January and ends in early-February. With the meaning of seeing the old year off and welcoming the new year, Tet becomes a special occasion of reunion for Vietnamese families. At that time, all family members try to come back to their home and get together to make such preparations for Tet as buying new clothes and cleaning their house. A branch of apricot blossoms or a Kumquat tree is indispensable decoration for every family in these days. They seem like a fresh air to the house. We display a tray full of fruits and vases of flowers on the ancestral altar.

Some typical Tet's food are sweets, coconut jam, fruit candies, melon seeds, stew pork with eggs, and especially sticky rice cake. Tet meals are usually bigger and more delicious than our daily ones.

On Tet holiday, people have many recreational activities. Young persons take part in the traditional games such as: tug of war, cooking rice, cock fighting, watching lion dance. Many people visit relatives to wish a happy new year. Adults will give lucky money to children. Woman like going to pagoda to wish good things for their family.

In my opinion, I like cozy and fresh Tet atmosphere. All family members gather and talk about resolutions for a happy new year. I can hang out with my friend and don't worry about anything.

" Tet" holiday is always in Vietnamese's heart.

Tet is one of the most important festival in VietNam. It’s held every year at the end of January or early February. Some weeks before Tet, Vietnamese clean their houses and paint their wall. They buy peach blossoms. Kumquat, flowers to decorate their houses. New clothes are bought on the occasion. One or two days before Tet, people make Chung cake - the traditional food, sticky rice, spring rolls and other spcial food. On the New Year, every family cook a spcial meals and prepare five fruit tray to worship their ancestors to pray for a better year. On the first day of New Year, people go out. Children receive lucky money wrapped in red envelop. Some one go to the pagoda. Some other visit their relatives and family.

I love TET so much because it is time for all members of my family gather to chat or have meals together

I would like to talk about the Lunar New Year festival, also known as the Tet holiday, which is the occasion expected the most by Vietnamese people every year. The festival usually lasts for around 3-4 days, and it takes place when a new year comes according to the lunar calendar.

– The Lunar New Year festival takes place because it is one of the most well-known traditions of Vietnam. Our people have been celebrating this occasion for thousands of years, and although there has been some recent argument about whether we should stop celebrating this festival, I do not think this activity will come to an end soon, at least not in the short term.

– There are some common things that people do during this festival. Perhaps the most important thing is that people who work and study in big cities would go back to their hometown to celebrate the new year with their families and relatives. The new year festival is one of very few occasions that families can gather together, so it is easy to understand why everyone in Vietnam expects this festival so much. Another thing that we usually do is that we give children some “lucky money” with the hope that it will bring fortune to those kids. We also have some other activities such as making “chung” cake, visiting temples and pagodas… and so on.

– The new year festival is so important to me and also to all Vietnamese citizens. The reason is because we get more days off from work and study, and therefore we have more time to spend with our families and our loved ones. It is also a great time to think about what we have done in the previous year, and to make plans for the upcoming year.

Tet is a national and family festival. It is an occasion for every Vietnamese to have a good time while thinking about the last year and the next year. At Tet, spring fairs are organized, streets and public buildings are brightly decorated and almost all shops are crowded with people shopping for Tet. At home, every is tidied, special food is cooked, offerings of food, fresh water, flowers and betel are made on the family altar with burning joss- sticks scenting the air. First-footing is made when the lucky visitor comes and children are given lucky money wrapped in a red tiny envelope. Tet is also a time for peace and love. During Tet, children often behave well and friends, relatives and neighbors give each other best wishes for the new year.

Last year, I had a truly memorable Tet holiday. It brought me a lot of happiness. As you know, in Vietnam Tet holiday is the biggest annual celebration in the first day of Lunar new year.
Tet holiday is a useful period time for every one to reunite and celebrate together. I went back to my hometown after completing the first semester of that year and it took me three hours to get back my house by bus. During these days off, My family and i visited my paternal grand parent and maternal grand parents. I really liked having fun with my cousins. We hold a dinner at the end of the year for the family reunion. People were very happy and shared each other about the work and problems which they experienced. In the early days of the new year we visited the neighbors and i hanged out with my friend and saw firework.
In conclusion, i was so happy with my family so Tet holiday is a truly wonderful holiday for me.

Although there are many celebrations throughout the year, Tet or the Lunar New Year holiday is the most important celebration for Vietnamese people. Originating in China, but Tet became the national holiday of Vietnamese and it also expresses deeply cultural character of Vietnam.

Tet is a festival which occurs in late January or early February. Officially, Tet holiday lasts for three days, however, it is closer to a week or ten days, as many celebrations occur before or after that date. A week before Tet, people are busy in shopping, decorating, cleaning their houses and preparing everything for celebrating holiday. Parents buy new clothes for their children so that they can wear them when Tet arrives. The atmosphere on these days is very animated and joyful with the streets and markets are full of people, shops are brimful with products and all of people are eager to welcome Tet holiday. Especially, in 23rd day of twelfth month by Lunar calendar, Vietnamese people usually celebrate the traditional ceremony to see Kitchen God to return to heaven. On this occasion, people show their good desires and faith that are recommended to the image of Kitchen God, who is trusted that will bring their wishes to the God. “Tất niên” is also an integral ceremony in the week before Tet. It is celebrated to see off the old year with bad luck and illness then welcome the happy and lucky new year. Tet is a time for family members who live apart try to be together. Despite of their business, people get their time with their own family for preparing and celebrating Tet together. Moreover, Tet is the occasion for descendants to commemorate ancestors that expresses the elevated traditional culture passed from through Vietnamese generations.

The first day of Tet is the most important day and it is reserved for family. Children receive “lucky money” from their parents, grandparents or the elders. “Lucky money” is a sum of money that are wrapped by an red envelope. People believe that it could protect children from elves and also bring to them good fortune, healthy in new year. Usually, children wear new clothes and give the elders the best greetings before giving the “lucky money”. After having the breakfast in the first day of the year, people visit pagodas or temples to pray wishes for them or their own family, then they do cleaning and decorating the ancestral graves. This action, which is called “tảo mộ” is also one of the most important customs of Vietnamese people doing in Tet holiday.

Taking about food in Tet holiday, we cannot but mention to “bánh trưng” and “bánh dầy” in the northern part in Vietnam and “bánh tét” in the southern part. Traditionally, those are the kind of cake made of sticky rice, green peas and pork, all of which are wrapped by banana leaves or Dong leaves. Besides, there are so many kind of traditional food such as “mứt”- which means dried candied fruits, as well “hạt dưa” – roasted watermelon seeds and so on.

Vietnamese people usually decorate luxuriously their house at Tet, they believe that brings them more happiness and money in new year. Cherry blossom flower or apricot flower are liked to be decorated in house because its flowers symbolize the prosperity and healthy that the family hopes for in the coming year.

To everyone of Vietnam, Tet is a sacred and meaningful occasion in their heart and mind. It is not only the chance for Vietnamese to direct toward original point and express deference to their ancestors, but also this is a opportunity for family members to come back together after a year full of exhausting and strenuous business. Tet is coming closely. It is right in front of your house, just open window and enjoy the best things Tet bringing to you. By the way, happy new year!!!
