Topic 1
Once when I was flying home from living abroad in China our plane flew over the eye of a hurricane. The turbulence was more severe than anything else I have ever experienced before and our plane actually made a free-fall of approximately 20 feet and then bounced around for another 10 minutes. You could see the clouds swirling below us but the most amazing thing was when we flew over the eye and you were able to see directly down into the middle of it. This is my most extreme experience with nature although I have survived mutiple tornadoes and floods from hurricanes.

The Republic of Singapore is an island country and city-state at the southern end of the Malay Peninsula in Asia. Singapore is north of the equator. Singapore is also commonly known as a "Garden City" or a "City in a Garden" because there are plants everywhere, making it look like a garden.The national language of Singapore is Malay and the other official languages of Singapore are English, Mandarin and Tamil English is the language of choice because it is the language that almost everyone in Singapore knows. It is the first language taught in schools and the language used by the government. Students are also taught their first language. This means that the Chinese will learn Mandarin and the Malays will learn Malay, and so on. Students can also choose to learn a third language in secondary school.Singapore is also known for Singlish, or Singaporean English, which is English mixed with some words from Malay and other local languages. The government runs a campaign, the Speak Good English Movement,against Singlish as there is a high consensus that it makes Singaporeans look less educated and intelligent than they are.

Water can be polluted in many ways. Farmers use chemical fertilizers in their fields to get better crops. Again they use insecticides that damage crops. These elements are washed away into rivers,canals and ponds. They get mix with water and pollute it. Sometimes Mills and factories pollute water by throwing their waste materials into the rivers and canals and ponds . Steamers, motor, launches and even sail boats can pollute water by throwing oil, food waste and human waste into the rivers and canals.
Unsanitary latrines in the countryside standing on the bank of rivers and canals also pollute water. The kutcha drains running into the rivers and canals cause water pollution. Clean water is safe for us and polluted water is harmful for us. We should prevent water pollution in order to keep good health.Water pollution can be solved by two possible solutions. Governments have a strong responsible to raise the awareness of public about protecting the water environment. Mass media could be used as a method to educate people about how water is important to our society. In addition, factories need to be encouraged to build the filtering system. They could ask for supporting investment from governments or some environmental organizations to create their own effective one.
