Mid-Autumn Festival is under the full moon day of the lunar calendar every year in August, over 4,000 years ago. This is the day children’s festival, also known as the “Festival looks Moon”. The parents show their love for their children. For others, because the traditional time to have this festival is usually after harvesting the crops, it is as the congratulation for the full harvest.
Apart from moon cakes and lanterns, the other most visible tradition related to Mid-Autumn festival is the lion dance. On the nights leading up to the holiday, groups of children parade through the streets – some of the children maintain a martial beat on drums, while others control an extravagantly decorated ‘lion’ crafted from molds and paper.
The children approach homes and businesses and ask the owners for their permission to perform. If they agree, the children put on a show that is believed to bring a blessing of luck and fortune. Chinese people usually organize dragon dance on Mid-Autumn Festival, while Vietnamese lion dance or unicorn dance. Con Lan symbolizes luck, prosperity and a good omen for every home ... In the past, the Vietnamese also organized the singing of Drums and hanging lights pulling troops during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The drum beats the cadence of the rhythm of the "trinh, barrel, thiet".
According to Vietnamese custom, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, adults give children to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, buy and make all the candlelight candles to hang in the house and leave the lanterns. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival includes moon cake, candy, sugar cane, grapefruit and other fruits.
Apart from fun meaning for children and adults, Moon Festival is also a chance for people to watch the moon predict the crops and national destiny. If the moon is yellow, the year will be the silkworm, if the moon is blue or green, the year will be disaster, and if the moon is bright orange, the country will prosper.
