2. “I’ll phone you next Tuesday”, he told Jack

=>He told Jack that he would phone him/her the following Tuesday.

3. “Can I sit beside you at present, Jean?” Tom asked

=>Tom asked me if/ whether he could sit beside me at that time.

4. “You had better not lend him any more money, Elizabeth”, said John

=>John advised Elizabeth not to lend him anu more money

5. “Why don’t you meet them to discuss the pay offer?” I asked him

=>I suggested meeting them to discuss the pay office.

6. “I’m sorry I gave you the wrong number”, said Paul to Susan

=>Paul apologized to Susan for having given/ giving her the wrong number
