Lúc 9 giờ, kim giờ chỉ số 9, kim phút chỉ số 12 nên kim phút đi sau kim giờ là 3/12 vòng đồng hồ .Đến khi kim phút đuổi kịp kim giờ thì hai kim chập khít lên nhau và đến lúc đó kim phút đi hơn kim giờ đoạn đường là 3/12 vòng đồng hồ . Và để kim phút và kim giờ vuông góc với nhau lần nữa từ lúc hai kim gặp nhau thì kim phút phải đi hơn kim giờ số vòng là 9/12vòng. Vây tổng cộng kim phút đi hơn kim giờ 3/12+9/12=9/12 vòng (kim giờ và kim phút vuôn góc khi khoảng cách hai kim bằng 3/12 vòng)
Mỗi giờ kim phút đi nhanh hơn kim giờ quãng đường là :
1 - 1/12 = 11/12 (vòng đồng hồ )
Thời gian để hai kim vuông góc với nhau là :
