everyone knows the artist picasso. his ideas changed the world od art forever. during his lifetime, he became famous and very rich. now his paintings are some of the most expensive pictures in the world. one painting sold for $ 106.5 million in new york.

picasso was born in spain in 1881. his first word was 'pencil' , and he could draw beautifully from an early age. first, he had drawing lessons from his father . then, he went to art college when he was only 13 years old. three years later, he was bored and stopped going to classe. finally, at the age of 19, he moved to paris - the art capital of the world . he got married twice and had four chirlden.

picasso often changed his style od paniting . fo example, after his best friend died, the sad artist pained only in blue . then he began to use a lot of pinks and oranges . later, he started to paint using shapes - a style later called ' cubism', in his life, he produced over 50,000 works of art, he never retired, but pained nearly every day until his death at the age of 91.

VINCENT CAN GOGH

vincent can gogh is a very famous painter. everyone in the world knows his work, and his paintings sell for millions of dollars. but he wasn't famos when he was alive. and he only sold one painting before he died.

van gogh was born in the netherlands in 1853. he has a difficult life because he suffered from mental illness. he never got married. he didn't begin to draw and paint seriously until he was 27, and he died just ten years later. but in that time, he produced more than 2,000 paintings and drwaings.

at first, van gogh painted poor people and used only dark colours. later he moved to the south of france. he loved the sunlight there, and his style of painting became colourful and exciting. but van gogh was often depressed and his mental illness became worse, first , he cut off part of his own ear, and then in 1890, he shot himselt.

            In 1850 Levi Strauss, a young immigrant from Germany, arrived in San Francisco. He came to sell canvas, a heavy fabric used for tents, to gold miners. One day Strauss saw that the miners needed strong clothes for work. He quickly took some of his canvas and made it into pants. These pants were very strong and lasted a long time. The pants became very popular immediately. Later Strauss wanted to make his pants even better, so he started making his pants from cotton cloth that was softer than canvas but just as strong. This fabric came from Nimes, a city in France, and was called ‘denim’ (from de Nimes). Denim was popular in the fifteenth century. Christopher Columbus used denim for the sails of his ships. Sailors in Genoa, Italy, wore denim pants. The word ‘jeans’ comes from the word ‘Genoa’. Mr. Strauss made the first jeans in the United States, but their name and their kind of cloth came from Italy and France.

Young Farmer
At the age of four, Gavin Clark knew the names of each one of his neighbour’s cows. By ten, he was selling chickens and eggs to his friends, and was winning prizes for them at farm shows.
