I am an organizer of the Maths-English contest, so of course I'd love to answer these topics!

Calling the number of apples the sister left for her brothers x [apple(s), \(x\in N\)*].

With the first statement related to the question, the oldest brother divided the apples into three parts, leaving an apple to the youngest one. So the number of apples left for the two younger brothers is: \(\dfrac{x}{3}+\left(\dfrac{x}{3}+1\right)=\dfrac{2x+3}{3}\).

With the second statement, the middle brother divided the apples into three thirds and gave away one apple in his ration. So therefore, the number of apples left for the youngest brother is: \(\dfrac{\dfrac{2x+3}{3}}{3}+\left(\dfrac{\dfrac{2x+3}{3}}{3}+1\right)=2.\dfrac{2x+3}{9}+1=\dfrac{4x+6}{9}+1=\dfrac{4x+15}{9}\).

With the third statement, the youngest brother woke up and saw 7 apples. So we have:

\(\dfrac{4x+15}{9}=7\)

\(\Leftrightarrow4x+15=63\).

\(\Leftrightarrow4x=48\).

\(\Leftrightarrow x=12\). This answer satisfies the conditions of x.

Câu 1 sai ở phần B.

Nếu như khi thi anh (chị) lỡ gặp như thế này, đầu tiên ta trans cái câu này ra tí xíu là thấy chỗ sai liền : Tom rất thích mách lẻo về người khác, cho nên anh ta không muốn người khác mách lẻo về anh ta.

Đấy, thấy từ cho nên sử dụng trong bài không hợp lí.

Vậy ta chọn đáp án B (thay lại bằng chữ but là hợp lí).

2. (A) Have a headache, an upset stomach, and a (B) bad case of sunburn did not (C) put me in (D) a good mood for the evening.

Câu này nhìn 1 cái là ra ngay, thông thường khi động từ đứng đầu, muốn trở thành chủ ngữ thì đương nhiên sẽ trở thành một danh động từ (gerund). Cái này là cấu trúc ngữ pháp.

Chọn đáp án A (sửa lại thành Having a headache là hợp lí).

3. Genetic engineering (A) is helping researchers unravel the mysteries of (B) previously incurable diseases (C) so that they get to (D) its root causes and find cures.

Cái dòng đầu nghe có vẻ phức tạp (nếu khó dịch) nhưng đề nó cho thế có thể đánh lạc hướng rất tốt, nếu như nhanh trí ta không cần bận tâm những chữ đó, bắt đầu xét qua đáp án A, ta thấy genetic engineering => là số ít, sử dụng be going to dạng is là hợp lí. Qua đáp án B, ta thấy cấu trúc adv + adj + N (cấu trúc bổ nghĩa) sử dụng cũng hợp lí. Đáp án C hợp lí vì so that + mệnh đề. Còn đáp án D chắc chắn 100% sai.

Giải thích : đề có cho diseases là dạng số nhiều nên ta phải thay ở câu D, its => theirs.

=> Chọn đáp án D.

-> Cụm "Have a headache, an upset stomach, and a bad case of sunburn" đóng vai trò như chủ ngữ trong câu, vì vậy ở đây không thể dùng động từ ở đầu câu, thay vào đó phải dùng danh động từ. Sửa: Have -> Having

Dịch: Kỹ thuật di truyền đang giúp các nhà nghiên cứu tháo gỡ những điều bí ẩn của những căn bệnh trước đây không thể chữa được, để mà họ đến được với những nguyên nhân gốc rễ của nó và tìm ra thuốc chữa.

-> Tính từ sở hữu "its" trong câu chỉ danh từ "diseases", mà diseases ở đây được viết dưới dạng số nhiều nên ý (D) sai. Sửa: its -> their
