There are many different types of music in the world today. Why do we need music? Is the traditional music of a country more important than the international music that is heard everywhere nowadays?
It is true that a (1)......... variety of musical styles can be found around the world. Music is a (2) ……. part of all human cultures for a (3)……….of reasons, and I would argue that traditional music is more important than modern, international music.
Music is something that (4)…………… all of us throughout our lives. As children, we are taught songs by our parents and teachers as a means of learning language, or simply as a (5)…….. of enjoyment. Children delight in singing with others, and it would appear that the act of singing in a group creates a (6)……..connection between participants, regardless of their age. Later in life, people’s musical (7)………….. develop, and we come to see our (8)……..songs as parts of our life stories. Music can (9) …… emotions in a way that words alone cannot. In short, it is difficult to imagine life without it.
In my opinion, traditional music should be valued over the (10)...........music that has become so popular. International pop music is often catchy and fun, but it is essentially a (11)………….. product that is marketed and sold by business people. Traditional music, by contrast, expresses the culture, customs and history of a country. Traditional styles, such as “cheo” and “tuong” in Vietnam, connect us to the past and form part of our (12)............ identity. It would be a real pity if pop music became so predominant that these national styles disappeared.
In conclusion, music is a necessary part of human (13)………., and I believe that traditional music should be (14)......... more importance than international music.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.
One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Great Pyramid of Giza was a monument of wisdom and prophecy built as a tomb for Pharaoh Cheops in 2720 B .C . Despite its antiquity, certain aspects of its construction makes it one of the truly wonders of the world. The thirteen- acre structure near the Nile river is a solid mass of stone blocks covered with limestone. Inside are the number of hidden passageways and the burial chamber of the Pharaoh. It is the largest single structure in the world. The four sides of the pyramid are aligned almost exactly on true north, south, east and west-an incredible engineering feat. The ancient Egyptians were sun worshippers and great astronomers, so computations for the Great Pyramid were based on astronomical observations.
Explorations and detailed examinations of the base of the structure reveal many intersecting lines. Further scientific study indicates that these represent a type of timeline of events – past, present and future. Many of the events have been interpreted and found to coincide with known facts of the past. Others are prophesied for future generations and are currently under investigation. Many believe that pyramids have supernatural powers and this one is no exception. Some researchers even associate it with extraterrestrial beings of ancient past.
Was this superstructure made by ordinary beings, or one built by a race far superior to any known today?
Question: In the second passage, the word ‘prophesied’ is closest in meaning to ____.
A. foretold
B. terminated
C. precipitated
D. affiliated
